galoshes are rain boots to my generation.  I sometimes say ice-box because that's what grew-up hearing around my grandmother.

 

bathing suit now swim suit.

I was a "late in life" child so I grew up with many older sayings:

 

Rouge - blush

 

Pocketbook - purse

 

Pocketbook - paperback book

 

Davenport - couch

 

Icebox - refridgerator

@Libbylady  I still cannot get that one right. It might be regional.  I remember the word POCKETBOOK and I still hear it.

My dad always called galoshes "rubbers".  He was on the police force and every morning he would put his rubbers on to go to work!!!

frosting/streaks - highlights 

victrola - record player, turntable

postman - letter carrier

stewardess - flight attendant

car phone - cellphone

spectacles - eyeglasses

penmanship - handwriting 

beautician - hairstylist 

beauty parlor - hair salon

pet owner - pet parent

boyfriend/girlfriend - significant other
