I have a quote from a health insurance company....First Health. (that is the name on the cover of the quote) It is ACA compliant, my policy is not on the exchange. The agent sent me two links to look at for providers, etc.
When I emailed him a question about two different company names that came up on my search, he told to be sure and click on the 2nd link he sent me, which I did....so I don't know why he sent two links.
I don't want to make this a long question....but how do I make sure that this is not a scam? My husband is skeptical, me not so much. But how do I know for sure?
The monthly cost as a little better than what I am paying now, deductible just a bit higher. It is worth the switch in carriers but need to make sure. Thanks!

Did you ask for the quote? Did it come to you "cold"? Are you dealing with an independent insurance agent or a company representative? What do you mean by 2 company names? Why are you changing policies? I did a search and did find "First Health". Why not do the same and then give then a call at the number shown on their website? i think you can also call your state insurance department and ask them if First Health is licensed to do business in your state.

I would call the insurance commission in your state. Or, you could call a few medical offices in your area to see if they take that particular insurance company and if they have anything negative to say.

@Cats3000...yes, I have a quote. The info came to me via fax at the office.
My health insurance went up a lot for 2017 and this policy is several hundred dollars less expensive per month. The deductible is not a lot higher than what I currently.
When I went to the link he sent to me, two different names come up Allied Health Care and First Health
I will get a phone number off of the website from the link and see what they tell me. I will also call my state insurance company... Thank you

The name sounds familiar. I may have had it or still do have it. I have had no problems all with this company. The longer I think about it the more I think it is a good company.lol
.
I may sound silly saying I don't remember but my Dr stores my info as does my pharmacy and my son takes care of all the rest for me...lol
So all I have to do for myself is get up in the morning.....lol I am a lucky gal! ![]()

I am not that familiar with all of the companies that offer insurance in my own state so I cannot speak about an insurance company out of state. Sorry :-(

If you receive Medicare, check to see if the company is listed in your Medicare & You 2017 booklet.

I pay my own insurance and yes, it keeps going up and I also have a high deductible but not as high as the exchange and the premiums are not as high either so right now even though it's almost a mortage payment every month, I'll pay it. I know what I'm getting.
I made the mistake of clicking on a dot com thinking it was the exchange and oh my goodness, these scammers are still calling me.
This guy quoted me a great price, great deductible and told me I needed to pay a fee to be a part of that company, I needed to make a decision immediately, it would of been a total disaster.
So, don't make any rash decisions, yes, everything is expensive, know the company, do your research and don't jump for a few bucks. In the long run how much is your frustration worth incase these company does have a bad reputation, don't know but just thinking out loud.
Find the phone number for them, call them, ask for a referral. You might be grandfathered in your own policy and once you jump, you might not be able to go back....I know I can't.

For me, a little less premium and a little higher deductible wouldn't be enough for me to switch if I was happy with my current plan. Will the savings be greater than the increased deductible?
I know a few companies that popped up when the ACA went into effect are no longer around.
Call your state insurance commissioner to see how long they have been doing business.
