I would definitely go and dress up.
As a teacher I always dressed up and made my own costumes. One year I safety pinned kitchen utensil on my black hoodie, wore a colander on my head and a sign that said,
“Everything but the kitchen sink”.
Another year we had super hero theme and I was “Super Shopper” with black trash bag cape with store coupons glued on, price tag dangling earring, and cutout “S” on shirt.
Last year, Peter Pan.
This year, retired! If I get invited I will find something in the closet!,

I like to go to fun parties where people can get together and talk. I'll never forget a guy who came to a nice cookout for 6, was walking to the fire barrel and just fell over because he was an alcoholic! I can't imagine disrespecting someone like that in their own home!
I think he fell off of the host's radar after one more incident when he ruined the guy's motorcycle trip and someone had to stay with him.
People that act like that need to stay home!

So, I went to the Halloween Ladies' Night. Already home. Only 3 other women showed...none in costume. I wore all black (didn't take much imagination... Lol), but changed out the laces on my black tennis shoes to orange ones! Yip-eee...a costume. We all said "Hi", complained about the HOA, had a glass of wine and some good chocolate cupcakes w/ orange icing and sprinkles.
Not really "fun", but I was neighborly....Thanks to those who suggested I put in an appearance.

I probably would opt out of the party and it does seem Halloween has gone a bit off the charts in recent years, but no, I don't think it's just for kids.

@stevieb Eventually, I decided to pop over there for a short time. It was no biggie...could have stayed home and if they do it again next year, I'm not going.

@Shanus nice that you went. The poor hostess must have felt bad over the small turnout.

@dex The big mistake is not asking women to RSVP. When she realized only a few were going to show up, she could have canceled...or at least divided up some of the goodies for us (who DID make the effort) to take home. 😜

I did a Trunk or Treat which started in a Church parking lot and moved to Main street. as grew too large. We are rural and is safer and the event includes Police Security and EMT support Some of the adults dressed up and also the ones handing out treats. I saw a few toothbrushes in buckets also. Lol. Kids and parents and some without children in costume.. We served a thousand. My GF said she spent $200 for candy!
A neighboring community had a Witches Ball of sorts for women and did some play acting. The local casino gives out money for dressing up and prizes of $50.Some of the costumes are very creative. It is an annual event.
Children in schools love teachers who wear costumes. I was a Witch one year and they mentioned it all year long when I went to the cafeteria. Even a. cute Halloween Hat would be fun.It was 32 degrees and dressing up was not appealing.
