I took against him when I read about him cutting up his meat into a lot of pieces. Proper manners are to cut one piece and eat it before cutting another. I'd sooner see blood on my plate than his poor table manners.

Once my husband complained about me putting salt on pork chops. That next time I made his without a grain of salt. I made mine in a separate pan. He never complained again.

Frankly, I find the statement you are making "I learned to pick my battles" more of a problem than him putting the meat in the microwave - if he wants a hockey puck so be it.

@Allegheny

Next time serve him chopped up Spam (shudder), reformed into a patty.

Tell him it's chopped mouse meat as you don't want to mess up any more costly meat on his behalf.

 Are therr women who are still responsible for cooking all the food?  None of my friends lives that way!  When we got married in the 70s, my  wonderful husband and I wholeheartedly agreed that we would not have gender roles. If he feels like cooking, he cooks. If I feel like cooking, I cook. We don't make a big deal out of it although we're both excellent cooks. But I certainly wouldn't tolerate that kind of behavior you're talking about.  I was visiting an aunt of mine a year or so ago  and she said it would  be a treat to have someone cook for her. I was happy to do so. Nothing I did was right, including how I washed the potatoes before baking. She followed me around the kitchen and found fault with everything I did, even though I was extremely careful and tidy about everything.   It was extremely stressful and disappointing because I was so glad to spend time with her. We had similar issues when I tried to clean up the kitchen after dinner.  I did not cook for her again during that visit but always insisted that we go out.

A hundred years ago (Well, maybe forty or so): What about someone who called his mother about how to cook 'this and that'.  He didn't even know how to slice potatoes and fry them, and wouldn't let me show him.  (He used to buy dehydrated potato slices.)  So one day, a friend of his told him that it's so easy to fry potatoes, and why in the heck did he use dehydrated, etc.), and showed him how to slice and fry.  He acted as though a great chef gave him a prized, award-winning secret.  'Men'...........(lol)

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).
