@luvmyteddy4 it is a very important issue....what if medics or fire trucks could not respond to your home! You need to get a lawyer and find out your rights!

@luvmyteddy4 Wow, what a rotten situation. Very upsetting. The suggestion of backing into your driveway is a good one, much easier coming out that way. I would most definitely call the police or village to come and look at it when you're blocked in. So rude. You have a right to come and go from your home public street or no. Don't hesitate, if they're too ignorant to change then you have to take it to authorities. I really hope it gets resolved.

Unfortunately not much you can do. I was in same situation for almost 4 years until the neighbors across the street moved. Same scenario as yours. Tried talking to them to no avail. Some days they would see my struggle to back out and they would not move any of the cars. People are just inconsiderate nowadays.
Just be careful backing out. If you hit or scratch one of their cars it will be 100 percent your fault since they are legally parked on the street.

I ended up backing my car out as far as I could then I lay on my horn for several minutes, continuously until someone came out and moved that car. I didn't say a word...if looks could kill, that would have been the day.
I sat in my truck in the street yesterday for 5 minutes and then laid on the horn, he pulled up a few inches and got out and said oh it's cool and I said no its not cool I just want to leave! He is back today and moved even closer to the driveway.

@luvmyteddy4 Is there parking on both sides of the street? If so you could request the city to make parking on one side.
As others have said, knock on their door when you want to leave, tell them you are blocked. If cars are left and they're not home complain to city about towing and putting signs up about not blocking driveways or they'll be towed. TAKE PHOTOS. (Even of that guy blocking you and not moving.)
I'm sorry this is happening with inconsiderate neighbors. More of my neighbors are burning fire pits even under wind warnings.....inconsiderate!

I have been taking photos for 10 years now including yesterday.

I refuse to set foot on their property for any reason and not every day when I want to leave. Just like that Easter week, no one was even at the house for 6 days.
There was even a fire behind their house that Easter weekend. If it had been on our street the 7 firetrucks would have moved their cars for them!
Had I known the 5 cars left at Easter for 6 days I would have had the cars ticketed for not moving them. Legally you have to move your car every 48 hours if left on the street but I had no idea they would be gone that long. I can't back into their driveways because they park 2 cars there.
Well, if you refuse to set foot on their property or knock on their door, you can stay home as a prisioner in your own house.
It does no good to complain and not take any action. If you really wanted to move your car, you would do what you have to.
We often have to move a vehicle with a boat towed behind. Our across the street neighbors block as as well. If they don't move, they will get side swiped. Trust me, they move.
There is no magic that's gonna work. You need to ask for them to move their cars.

I would emphasize to the town officials the danger of fire trucks, emergency vehicles, etc. not being able to get through. They may not realize how narrow the street is when cars are parked. Also, is there no overnight ban on parking on the street? That is another thing I would bring to their attention as a safety/security issue.
Good luck! If it were me, I would move.

The neighbors driveway is directly across from mine and a couple lives there. They are in their early 30s. They have friends and company come to stay about every weekend and many people come by during the week and at night. The company is probably family from out of town, they stay days and even weeks. The problem is they park on the street and it's usually at the very end of the driveway on both sides. My street is very narrow at my end so when I back out there is not enough room.
Sometimes the people even park at the end of their driveway.
There have been so many times that I wanted to leave and couldn't. They know I don't have enough room and they don't care, yes I have spoken to them twice over the years but after being told its a public street and blah blah you get the picture. The police won't do anything because it is a public street.
The houses are smallish and close together. I tried parking on the street once and got my mirror torn off by someone driving through because there is not enough room to park on both sides of the street. Delivery trucks and 911 or firetrucks would not make it through.
Yesterday when I tried to back out a man was sitting in his car and could see I was stuck. I finally honked the horn and he moved up about 5 inches, not enough. There was already a car on the other side so it have to be that way or no way.
I literally don't know what to do. What if I have an emergency!
The cars are still there today so I can't leave.
These people went out of town for Easter and had 5 cars left there on the street and in the driveway and didn't came back for 6 days. They left in other cars.
Any suggestions, I feel at my wits end.
Please don't suggest moving, I can't afford it, have lots of pets and I'm too old. I've lived here 35 years and this is my only issue.

I would talk to my Selectman, Mayor, or some other appropriate town official about the situation to see if they could put some "no parking" markings (about a car length) and signs on each side of both your driveway and theirs. That way you would have enough room to swing out in either direction. Then if there were still cars parked there and you couldn't get out, if you called the police they would have to move the cars since they would be in a no parking zone.
Also, I don't know your age but if you're a Senior, maybe someone at the Senior Center or some similar group can help.
It's a tough situation and they don't seem to have an interest in being considerate neighbors. Hope you can find a resolution.

Something very similar happened to my next door neighbor.
She had problems backing down her driveway.
The people across from her parked on the road and it made it difficult for her to back down.
She went over and asked them if they'd leave room directly across from her driveway so she could get out.
They have driveways, but for some reason have lots of cars (two people live in the house).
Many of our driveways on my side of the house have very long driveways. Mine is over 200 ft long.
The neighbors apologized and said they didn't realize it was causing a problem.
Problem solved. That's all it took. They just didn't realize and was happy to change where they parked.
