I'm so sorry for your fall and pray you heal quickly!!  My friend posted on FB that she also fell in her driveway and had a chipped bone in her foot or ankle as well as a broken wrist.

I've been there and done that.  I know it's too late now but I also highly recommend Yaktraxs or something similar.  We've had a bad winter with lots of snow and ice and I've practically worn mine every day.  They really do work.

How awful indeed.  I had a fall like that but it was black ice covering the parking lot.  Fractured my right wrist.  Since then I've been paranoid about ice.  Hubby thinks I'm nuts because I "see" ice where it doesn't exist.  Very icy in my area lately.  Warnings on tv, the mayor sent out an advisory.  Saly for deicing is hard to come by.  Wishing you a speedy recovery.

@Imaoldhippie  I am so sorry that you fell and hurt yourself. In December, I stood up and my ankle rolled and I broke my foot. I was put in a CAM boot and I am still in it to this day. I see the podiatrist on Monday and I hope that she says that I can  progress to a shoe.

It is best to do what the doctors say to do. Thankfully, I did not require surgery. I have to limit my walking though so the bones can mend.

If you get a boot, it is probably best to wear compression socks with it. A sock anyway or it will irritate your foot and leg. I like the Wellow compression socks. They are expensive but in my opinion, totally worth it. I got compression socks from Costco and they made my skin itch.

It has been a challenge getting around the house and I rarely go out. I do have a knee scooter. Practice with that because it can be a little tricky. I take 1 650 mg Tylenol 4 X per day for pain. Ice your foot multiple times a day and keep it elevated.

They told me to practice RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. My foot is healing nicely but it has been 10 weeks now.

Yesterday, I saw my Endocrinologist and because of the foot break, he started me on medication to help my bones. I have Osteopenia, not Osteoporosis.

I am grateful to my employer for allowing me to work at home all of this time.

If you have a boot, you must not walk at all without the boot. Even to get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. It is such a pain, literally, You will get used to the restrictions. I wish you the best.

I hope you are doing well and that your recovery won't take to long. These days they can do so much more than years ago.

Your story took me back to 1999. I slipped on the bottom step going down to the basement and broke my lower leg, ankle, and broke off both of the pointed bones on each side of the ankle. I ended up having surgery, an 8" bar and countless screws.

The bar got cold and felt like an internal ice pack on my leg the first few winters after that. I hate socks but quickly adapted. LOL

My ankle still tells me when the barometer begins to top.
