I also fell on the ice (dropping off clothes at the Mission).  I fell flat

on my face no broken bones just swelling and bruising thank God.

Now that I am older I feel like a recluse in winter being afraid of the ice.

@Imaoldhippie, so sorry to hear this but glad you were taken to the ER right away.

My nephew had to have surgery and in order for him to get around he rented a knew scooter but bought it in the end because the difference was about $100. He's 6'5" so he used a stool in the shower. @spumoni99 mentioned a lawn chair which would also work. For covering my nephew order those from Amazon but a garbage bag would also work.

Wishing you a speedy pain free recovery.

That should be "knee scooter".

A hand held shower would also be great, that way you'll be able to control the water.

I think a handheld shower wand is a necessity, @Sage04.

I am sorry you are dealing with this, @Imaoldhippie.

After two falls, both resulting in shoulder replacements, I am scared to death of falling:/

@Imaoldhippie ,sorry you've been hurt. Prayers for a speedy recovery. I don't even like to think about falling. This has been a terrible year for snow and ice. Glad you have DH to help care for you. Seems like a lot of goods ideas here to help with your recovery. Take care.

@Imaoldhippie ...gosh, that's terrible...hope you recover and have speedy healing.

My parents had shower chair, special for showers, and the legs are adjustable.   Walgreens has them, Amazon, etc

I totally agree with with buying the ice cleats from QVC.  I have multiple pairs as do my husband.  I have used them faithfully for 20 years and have a pair constantly on my winter boots.  But be sure to not walk into your home or on anything wood because they will do damage.  We use them for walking on driveway and sidewalks and they do a great job.  It is like having studded tires on your feet, spikes facing down.
