There was a small patch of ice on a step on our porch and of course my right foot found it and I fell bending my right ankle to the outside right.  Had to crawl back into the house because I could not put any weight on my right foot.  Hubby call the squad and off to the ER we went.  Xray showed 2 bone fractures at the end of my fibula and tibia.  ER doc wrapped it and I have an appointment with the orthopod tomorrow morning.

I have a heck of a time getting around.  Hubby is on his way to CVS to get me one of those small scooters so I can at least go the bathroom on my own.

Pain is more on the top of my ankle where the sprain is.  Otherwise I am ok everywhere else.  When I fell it was just a fall on my butt so no other injuries.

Good grief what a problem it is getting around.

I am so sorry for you!! Had a small wheelchair and walker and crutches but stayed away from the scooter--that thing was my enemy!!! Not being mobile is awful----have a great solution for keeping your leg dry when you want to shower--let me know!!

Similar thing happened to me a few years ago.  I used a 3 level step stool to get around with my knee on one step until DH bought me a walker so that I could get out of the condo.

This happened during the height of the pandemic in December 2020.  I delayed going to a doctor for a couple of weeks.  He found that I had dislocated--not broken--a bone in my foot.  Of course, he suggested surgery which I declined.  I got a "boot" which helped a lot in walking and eventually the foot healed.

I have no long lasting problems with the foot and am glad I did not have surgery.   Friends have agreed that I made the right decision.

Good luck.  It is tough taking a shower--I have a seat that I still use.

@Imaoldhippie Oh no!  You sure deserve to at least whine.  I am so sorry this happened!  Prayers and best wishes and be careful with that scooter!!!!!  All best!

To everyone else.  If you can find some, get those ice spikes or grippy things that go on the bottom of your shoes.

Ewww, that really hurts!  It's so icy outside - even the snow is frozen solid:  it's very scary trying to get around.

It's so hard to get around on one foot like that.  Ankle injuries take so long to heal.  Just rest so it heals faster and let DH take good care of you.

Sending good thoughts and ((hugs)) to you.

You need to get a shower chair or bench.  When I broke a bone in my foot I could not put any weight on that foot so I bought a shower bench and sat down and took my shower.  I liked it so much that once my foot healed I continued using the bench.

I used a trash bag to wrap my foot while I took a shower.
