That "peasant" blouse might work. Not as dressy, but lovely colors and well made. Pair it with an A-line skirt or a long gathered skirt in a solid color.

@Imaoldhippie  And, here comes a gored skirt!

I think for that important of an event, you would definitely be better off seeing and trying something on in person.  I don't know about you but I'm getting pretty tired of paying original shipping of now $3.50 plus shipping back.  It used to be paying "your way" was always cheaper but lately the 6.95 ends up being cheaper.  Now that I'm retired I can't afford to spend $10 to try something on!

I am not retired but I am not spending a "tryon fee" either

@lolakimono..........I wear a 1x in tops (cuz of the girls), and a 14/16 in pants and skirts.

I would like something dressier, lace or a little bling, but not gaudy.

I do have time so I will definitely shop around and take everyones suggestions here and we will be talking to my step son before then, so I will know more of what I am doing.

when I was looking for my MOB dress it turned out not to be as easy as I thought and I allowed lots of time to look .  there are 1000s of dresses but it takes time to find the right one

My vote is to go to Dillards, Talbots, or any other nice store and look and try on items. Maybe wait for. srping and summer items to come out. Leggings and a black top or anything long sleeve will be a killer in Fla. in June with the heat and humidity. Trust me.

Suggestion: Nordstrom always has helpful, knowledgeable sales associates. Once they evaluate you by height and size, they seem very willing to bring items into their store for you. Plus, they usually do not steer you in the wrong direction.

When I needed MOB, they found the perfect thing (dress with sheer jacket.) And they rounded up the underpinnings too.

I love wearing full dressy pants (in lieu of a long skirt) whenever possible. They are rather hard to find (Draper's & Damon carries sets but these go fast). Dillard's and Macy's carry the same brand as D & D.

The brand name is "Alex Evenings."

@LTT1  That has been one of my favorite dressy lines for decades. Always appropriate and well-made. Dillard's and vonMaur both carry it. I seldom need to look at anything else.

When working, AP also carried lovely suits. Don't know if AP still does upscale women's clothing or not.

I've only been in Dillards once when in Florida.  It's a very nice store!  I just wish they were up in the northeast...none here in PA or NJ.

I also don't really like wearing dresses even to weddings.  However leggings are just too informal & in Florida very hot.  I would wear dressy lightweight flowy fabric pants.  I would also look for a cool lightweight jacket & tank or a short sleeve top with jacket.
