I had my kidney surgery on Thurs., Feb. 3rd and spent one night in the hospital. I spent  two nights at my sisters and came home late Sunday.  Ava and Henry were both very happy to see me.

I am in a lot of pain.  They used to keep you in the hospital two or three nights for this surgery, and I feel like I needed at least one more night for the pain.

They gave me dilaudid by IV every two hours and also oxycodone and hydrocodone.  They gave me morphine by IV the first time, and it didn't help at all, so they switched to dilaudid.

I'm only on 5 mg oxycodone every six hours, and that's just not enough.  I'm not sure it helps at all.  I don't really know how much pain I'm supposed to be in.

I have barely been on the computer, so please forgive me if I don't respond to you or heart your post quickly.  I did see that @m0rgan started a thread asking about me, and I appreciate that.

I won't know if it was cancer until I see my surgeon on the 16th.  He felt that he got very good margins though.  You don't treat kidney cancer with chemotherapy or radiation because it just doesn't work well.  You remove the tumor.  So there will be no further treatment.  He also said that there is virtually no way that it will come back once it's removed.  I'm not worried about that.

I just want this pain to be controlled.  I'm not a wimp as far as pain goes.  It's just pretty bad.  I'm doing my deep breathing, and I'm walking around the house and sitting up.  It hurts less when I lie down.

I'm going to sign off for now but will try to come back and check the boards.  I very much appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers.

@NickNack   Thank you for the update. I hope and pray that your pain will be decreased very very soon.  Reach out to them if you don't think you are getting the correct dosage.  It never hurts to ask.

I will continue to keep you in my prayers.  Continue to heal and when you are able, let us know how you are doing.

Re: I'm Home From My Surgery

@NickNack   Please contact your doc's office and keep him informed of the pain levels. Too much pain raises blood pressure which could bring on new issues. Most surgeries can be pianful, but you don't need to suffer.

Thinking about you and hope you receive great news and then can rest easy. 💕
