I put out my weekly garbage can last night. I also put out a broken plow and hearth spinning sprinkler I had bought several years ago on QVC. A tree fell in it last winter during a storm and broke pieces off of it. It looks somewhat like this one QVC sells.
M51852
Plow & Hearth 6 ft. 2-in-1 Sprinkler and Spinner
I leaned the sprinkler against the can. It was quite tall with the spikes on the bottom as in the one In the picture QVC sells now. This morning, before the garbage truck came, IT WAS GONE😶. I asked my DH if he had taken it for any reason...he did not.
I live on a culdesak on the end of the street...no traffic other than neighbors....if a neighbor took it, They are going to find out it is broken and does not work.....I would think that if a neighbor wanted it, they would just ask! Wouldn't you? I would! I would gladly let them have it..and told them it was busted so at least they knew why it was trashed
I really do not care...but find it just interesting to have it just taken..almost amusing actually...
wonder if if once they whoever THEY ARE realize it is busted....it will show up on my doorstep one morning!🤔😊😄

Every month in our town home owners can put out just about anything they want the trash man to pick up.....sometimes there is good junk at the curbside...and people will take it, happens all the time.
Maybe someone is going to repurpose your spinner/sprinkler

@SeaMaiden This reminds me years ago, we were gutting out our cottage up north. We put a broken LazyBoy (red) out by the road. We were gone for awhile and when we came back, it was gone. This was common up north. People made their weekly checks on garbage days. Anyway, the next week we put out another LazyBoy, not broken, but red (ICK). When we came back from being away, that one was gone, but the broken one was back! Apparently, they were trading up! LOL
We still laugh about this when we think about it. Just watch what your neighbors put out in their trash in the coming weeks .

yes, I can see repurposing.....and that is great! I think it is just ODD not to ask? Maybe it was not a neighbor... someone just driving by.... oh well....no big deal....I guess I need to find something important to do! LOL...becoming mrs. Kravitz!

Things like this happen quite often in my suburban neighborhood. Usually items are picked up by scrap metal collectors, or small engine repair guys in the case of a lawn mower. When we had an annual "junk pickup", more than half of what we put out was gone the next morning.

I have no problem with someone taking a trash item. I do have a problem if they bring it back. We can't put out anything that doesn't fit in the can with the lid shut. Anything that doesn't fit has to have a sticker. You buy stickers from the town for $10.

I lived most of my life in Philadelphia. I moved a few miles outside of city limits a few years ago. All of my time living in in the city, since when I was a little girl at my parent's house to when I moved out of the city at the age of 55, it was common that what we called the 'junk men' would drive up and down the backs of houses looking for anything that people threw out that may be useful - either for themselves or for re-sale. A common sight once a week early in the morning before the scheduled trash pick-up trucks arrive.

Why would you care if someone takes trash? I sure wouldn't. I don't people going through the trash, that's a whole other thing, but just to take something sitting out, I'm glad for them to have it!

if it was on the curb with the trash ready for pick up, then i think it's fair game for anyone who wants it. where i live, people do that on purpose. they put out small furniture or whatever household item they no longer want, and anyone is welcome to take it no matter the condition it's in.

If its on the street it's fair game.
The neighor will fix it, repurpose it or throw in a pile to take to recycling.
