I had a humbling experience today, it made me so thankful for many things. I visited a friend I had not seen in several yrs. She recently fell, broke her ankle & leg, & is in re-hab/nursing home, temporarily. We really had not spoken in over a yr, but due to many things, had grown apart, as well as distance in living areas. It broke my heart when I saw her. Not only does she have a broken leg/foot, she also has developed neuropathy in here hands & feet. Her speech was slightly slurred also. Her husband had a leg amputated several yrs ago. They are both in sad, sad shape. I've very much overweight, but it certainly gave me a little different perspective on life. I'm thankful for being in somewhat great shape, compared to those 2.

@TX-starlight, it’s all about perspective, isn’t it?

@TX-starlight

Things can really change in the blink of an eye, right?

Hope you continue to be well, and that you continue to see your friend occasionally, even though it's hard.  Bless you.

I think the take home is how important compassion is when you see such a situation and perhaps when one comes upon something that looks odd, difficult or out of place.  It is clear you were compassionate.  There is no substitute for opening one’s heart when your encounter someone in need.  I’m sure your visit meant the world to her.

Reminds me of that parable.  "I cried because I had no shoes and then I met a man who had no feet"  or something like that.   It's a reminder to us all that we should keep things in perspective.

@TX-starlight

That was nice that you got back together again.

I am sure that even though she and hubby are dealing with alot she was glad to

see you and knows that you care.

We never know how our life can change from one minute to the next.  Nice you visited and I'm sure she appreciates it.  We have to be thankful for every day we are "up and around."

I had a similar experience when I ran into someone I had not seen in four years....she can barely walk due to a bad knee and her diabetes is not under control. She is several years older than me and it was so sad to see how much pain she was I simply trying to walk. It made me think God was tapping me on my shoulder to remind me to get back to my walking routine.

@chrystaltree

 I

Reminds me of something like this:

"Everyone throws their problems together and gets to pick one. Most would probably pick their own".

Obviously not verbatim, sorry it's the best I could do.
