Human Resources/Employment Question

Has anyone here worked in HR?

I'm not sure what's going on .... Just saying .. *IF* ..

If I get a letter offering me a job, but it states the offer is contingent on a background check & drug test and then I NEVER get the forms for the BC &DT, does that mean the employer changed their mind?

Can they just not send the BC & DT forms and rescind the offer?

Just wondering ...

TIA.

No ...    you need to contact the person or HR who made the offer.  Once they hear from you, they will have you make arrangements to take the tests.  For all they know,  you may have taken a job elsewhere or are not interested.   CONTACT THEM if you get an offer.  GOOD LUCK.

Re: Human Resources/Employment Question

How much time has gone by since you got the offer letter? Did you formally accept the offer?  As to the BC and DT - you should have received the forms either by mail or email and then once you sign and return them, the BC takes about a week.  You will need to go have a blood test done for the drug test.  But to answer your question, of course they can rescind the offer. I'm assuming there is no signed contract?

@nycgrl  Agree with all that you've said,  but she needs to contact them first to get the process started.   They won't just send it without hearing from the candidate.

Good grief.  You should have called them the day you got the letter.  When I was in HR, I gave people 5 days plus mailing time to call and then moved on to other candidates.

Totally agree. @RinaRina - have you been in contact with HR?

If I wanted the job, I would have called that day I got that letter. Were you the poster who asked about phone interviews?

That's never how it's worked for me.

A prospective employer never sent me any kind of forms.   They have a service that provides background checks and if I am a serious candidate, they set up an appointment for me to go do the drug testing.

If you flunk either one, the offer is rescinded.

Re: Human Resources/Employment Question

I have never heard of an HR Departmeng sending out a letter and not providing information on what the prospective employee should do if they want to accept employment.

They have always provided instructions with a phone number with the letter, or paperwork to fill out and return, or they call and give instructions over the phone as well as sending out a letter.

Most employers are " at will" meaning if you don't belong to a union, they can let you go for any reason.  I would think if they rescind their offer, they would send out another letter or call you.

i would be as confused as the OP.

Yes, it is the same poster who got her nose bent out of joint, when a potential employer sent an e-mail asking when would be a good time to call her, and at which phone number.
