We don't have many poisonous snakes in Indiana.  Water Moccasins is about it and while they say some people have seen Rattlesnakes here, I have never seen one in Northeastern, IN.   We did have a large blue racer (non poisonous) in our yard wrapped around my garden hose once.  I had it relocated to a reservoir nearby.  I wouldn't kill a non poisonous snake nor am I afraid of them but no way do I ever want to encounter a poisonous snake or alligators.   That goes for Bears and Mountain Lions, too.  Give me good ole farmland USA!!

Better keep your eyes open @jubilant.  I read your post then remembered reading this news article a few days ago about bears returning to Indiana.  You never know what's hiding behind those corn stalks.

Re: Holy Crow --- I had a visitor tonight🐊🐊🐊🐊

My brother did a second cutting on our hay this week and spotted a mama bear and her cub in our back field.   One of the neighbors ran the cub out of her trash last week.

I saw my first black bear on this property in the 90's, when he lumbered thru my back yard around 10 a.m.   Beautiful animal, about 400 lbs, with a tag in his ear.   That bear has been spotted numerous times above, and below our house, so obviously he and his family are neighbors.

Our dogs bark a lot at night, and obviously see and smell something in the dense woods behind our house.   My youngest daughter saw a coyote in our backyard about 3 years ago, and oldest daughter saw one in the spring, about 1/4 mile from home, as she headed to work.

My husband killed 2 tiny black racers on our front porch this week.   We have found these tiny snakes on our front porch for at least 30 years, but still don't know exactly where they are coming from.

My two cats are indoor cats and that's all they'all ever be. Since a fox moved into the neighborhood the outdoor cat population went down to almost zero. I have a brown bunny that lives nearby somewhere. Seen him for the last two years. Surprised he's made it this long with foxes and owls around these parts.

next time I encounter one I'll be sure to put the SOS out for you or @Kachina624....we could use you both down here since you both are comfortable handling alligators, etc.

BTW they had a 6' one near the pool today! Not sure but someone sad with all these heat and no rain the ponds are drying up & they are becoming displaced! Don't know if I believe that.

Omg, another one? I would be scared knowing they're coming so close!
