Sunday, November 16 Update on Ed
Ed was diagnosed with a compression fracture of lumbar spine October 20.
He was diagnosed with pneumonia on October 24.
He was transferred to B.V. Rehabilitation October 27 and remains there to this day. We live 1/2 mile from there and I visit him every day.
Today is day 21 at Rehabilitation Center. He has rehab daily except for the weekend. Sometimes there are two sessions (AM and PM), other times only one. This varies day by day. He is making steady progress there and they are now having me help him transfer. I am there to witness many of the sessions.
He still has pneumonia which is being treated on a daily basis. His blood pressure and oxygen levels are still low. Vitals are taken daily and he is given oxygen at night and during the day if the level is under 90. He receives three breathing tube treatments each day.
Thursday, November 20 Ed is scheduled for EGD procedure of the esophagus and stomach at a nearby hospital. The doctor places a camera into the area to determine what is causing his swallowing problems. Currently, he is on a pureed diet which he hates and has significant swallowing issues.
Friday, December 12 Ed will have a Swallowing test (Fluoroscopy Video). This will determine if he has "silent aspiration" into the lungs. If so, it appears this may be the cause of his pneumonia.
The above is a brief summary of the treatments and therapies for Ed as of yesterday. As you can see he has extensive health issues and we remain hopeful. For the most part he is motivated for the therapy treatments and likes all of his therapy team and never refuses to do what is asked of him. He also cooperates with his medical treatments.
I visit every day for therapy treatments and meals and try to boost his morale. I encourage him to eat but he never finishes his small meals. He began a ground diet when first admitted; last week this was changed to pureed.
Please continue prayers for his recovery. Prayers are needed for me too. Together, we are on an extremely difficult journey. Thank you.

@AnikaBrodie Thank you for the update. The tests are uncomfortable for Ed and stressful for you both. I hope they find a solution soon so y'all can rest.
Prayers are being sent as always.

Dear @mousiegirl and All, My home isn't a large as it appears. It was built in the late 1950's, very, very economically. The main house has 2 bedrooms, each 10ft by 10ft. One tiny bathroom, a long hall as large as maybe 2 small bedrooms or todays walk in closet
, living room and dining room.
The cool thing was why it has 2 driveways. You would drive up one driveway, under the house, yes the house itself was the carport, and then down the other driveway.
I wish so much that the previous owners hadn't messed with it except for the roof. It was built with a flat tar and gravel roof. They had a sloped roof built over it so it could have shingles instead of tar and gravel. The previous owners built onto the back of the house, two his and hers workrooms. She did furniture reupolstering and I don't know what he did with his workroom. Then downstairs, they closed in the wonderful drive under driveway and created one small bedroom for them and a den or sitting room. I think because they had children and needed more space. With the back of the house a crawl space where the hot water heater is and the furnace is. The stairs built that lead up and down takes up some of the dining room. And they are steep.
I would have loved the simple small origional house but keep the sloped roof. I use the downstairs for storage and the washer and dryer are in her work room in the back of the house. They use to be downstairs in the crawl space and I wasn't going to have that.
I wish that I could afford to move to a small home on almost flat ground. It never hurts to have some elevation due to heavy rain downpours and flooding. But here I am making the best of things and after all these years, trying to give the house the love and respect that deserves.

A Blessed Saturday to you! It's a good day here today. I couldn't sleep last night so I took a little Nyquil and then slept like a baby. I just finished a egg salad sandwich for breakfast. It's Saturday, bath day.
Then I hope to go out front and begin cutting back the Oak Leaf Hydrangea. They are gorgeous but they are really huge for the front of my house and I worry about them growing into my septic tank.
Last night I was on line looking at petite shrubs and flowers. So far I really like the Bobo Hydrangia, it likes sun and tolerates heat and grows to about 4ft tall. And there is a flower that I loved the look of but right now I can't think of the name of it. I plan to plant into large pots instead of the ground for easier maintenance.
I guess that's all I have for now. Have a Happy and Wonderful day! Love and Cozy Hugs!
@Sweet Caroline 1 If possible, could you post pictures of your hydrangeas, I love them, and the type you are planning to cut down, are fabulous, and I am sure I will be jealous if I see them.
Dear @mousiegirl and All, The only reason that I could post this picture of my home is because it is pictured on line as the homes that are on this street. They do that here, it's a real estate thing. I'm going to erase the picture now. I have a Gitterbug flip phone but want to move up to the Gitterbug smart phone so I can post pictures of my improvements to you. Maybe soon, I hope. ![]()
