Foxxee, we are not trying to make English language more difficult.I think all areas have their sayings that others have not heard off.Just something that caught on I guess.

We use it when we need a solid quarter like for a soft drink machine, laundermat, paperbox, things where 25 cents in change were not accepted in the receptacle.

Exactly! Since my friend was at Aldi's and had change, she asked someone returning a cart for theirs (you need a CASE QUARTER to get a cart at Aldi's) and gave them the change, saying she didn't have a case quarter!

Also what @red&curly said about the language is true! My friend was raised with the term as her mom was from South Carolina where it is common. She said she thought it was common knowledge!

I guess it's like here in NJ where I live, we say sprinkles on top of ice cream. In south NJ, they say jimmies. We say sub for submarine sandwich, they say hoagie. We say pork roll, they say Taylor ham. It's just what you're use too!

I've never heard of it, either.

Seems odd. A quarter is already a quarter. Twenty-five cents can be comprised of a combination of other coins, but a quarter is a quarter (?).
