In the house we live in now, we have had various kinds of poisonous and non-poisonous snakes in the garage, skinks, toads, spiders and a random wren trying to make a nest. We have also had a variety of snakes on our patio. The front door brings toads on the doorsill and every now and then a green lizard makes its way in.
When I lived up north, we had spiders and this creepy thing called a cave cricket in the basement - so gross and aggressive - I stocked up on plenty of bug spray.

Dead squirrel in the chimney last week. The odor was horrible.
possum in the garage.
more squirrels in the attic/walls......hopefully they were trapped and removed by the pest man
biggest issue isn't inside but in backyard....bobcats! And we live in the city!

Two apartments ago (about six years) I got into my bed for the night and pulled the quilt up to my chin. As soon as my head hit the pillow, I felt something soft brush past my arm. I looked down and sitting on my chest about eight inches from my chin was a light brown bat!!
I threw my quilt down over it and pulled up the sides and bottom of the quilt and trapped it inside. It was squeaking. As I was getting ready to move soon, I had empty boxes in the hallway. I pulled the quilt into the hallway and put a box over it.
During all of this I hadn't screamed or made a sound. I called 911, who said to call Animal Rescue. I called them and they said they couldn't come out until the next day. So I finally call the "Super" and he came over, pulled the box outside and let the bat go. He was laughing, he thought it was funny.
Unfortunately, when I called a veterinarian the next day, she told me I should get rabies shots because I had no idea how the bat got in, or when, and it could have been in my apartment for days, on my countertops, furniture, etc. If it was rabid, its sputum could have been on everything. That was surely a disgusting thought. I threw the quilt out, but had no idea what to do with the furniture. I cleaned everything the best I could.
I had to go to the hospital on four different occasions for six shots, two in each thigh, and one in each upper arm. The final shot was scheduled on my moving day and they said it could not be changed, as there is a necessary time element for the shots. So I had to go to the hospital on the day the movers were coming. (That was another nightmare I won't go into.) It wasn't a good week.

I live in the country and love it!! Tried to go back to the city, but left as soon as I could. The only animals I have in my house are my kitties. I would say that was boring, but they are NOT boring. LOL I've always been careful about open doors. I have a lot of screening around.
