Hairdresser texting during appointment

I was just reading the recent posts on hairdresser issues, but haven't seen this mentioned.  I've been going to the same person since the mid 90s (with a long break in there at one time because she overbooked).

She doesn't overbook anymore, but she is texting on her phone the entire time I am there. I was so frustrated last night that I swore it was my last time. Yes, I make comments to her but haven't come out and said please stop witht the phone.

She is not taking appointment texts or emergency texts/calls, but back and forth with her boyfriend (s).  It probably takes an extra hour in the chair because of this.  I do highlights and cut, blowdry.

Does anyone else have hairdressers who are on the phone frequently during your appointment, leaving you sitting idle and waiting?

This would be completely unacceptable to me and I would straight out tell her that unless she acts like a professional and puts away her phone she had lost me as a customer.

@shoppingless

No, and I would not accept that lack of consideration.

You spend your time and money and for that you deserve her attention.

I wouldn't be happy about it but I have never seen my hair dresser on the phone so no worries here.

If it adds extra time to your visit because you are waiting for her to get off the phone I would not be pleased. Maybe next time you could say I am kind of rushed today and need to be out by and then figure how much time your visit SHOULD take. If she doesn't get the message I would probably not return.

She must not be very busy if she can spend that much time fooling around.

@shoppinglessNo, but I'd leave if the texting made my time in the chair much too lontg.   I left a quite decent nail tech becasue she talked too much -  some to me, but also some on her phone.  Last time I was with her, a mani-pedi took well over 2 hours.  That's absurd -  even though I have time, that's not how I want to use it.

My hairdresser does do appointment texting sometimes, but she also answers my texts quite quickly and I like that.  And I'm always well finished in a predictable time.  That's important to me.

Re: Hairdresser texting during appointment

I’ve had this happen, texting the entire time I was there. At my last appointment I went for a cut/ color. It was my first time with this stylist. I told her what I wanted for color and cut, other than that, she never spoke the first word to me!  She stayed on her phone the entire time texting and talking to others in the salon but no communication whatsoever with me. I was frustrated when I left and of course, don’t plan on going back to her.

I went to a very high priced color specialist that owned her own salon with her husband one time many years ago.  She did a great job on my color but talked on the phone the entire time I was there.  I thought it was extremelly rude, and I never went back.

Re: Hairdresser texting during appointment

My hairdresser at times does look at her phone or take a call because her husband has dementia.  Other than that, I would tell her that either she takes care of me or I would look for someone else.

Probably what I would do first is as soon as a hairdresser started on my hair, I would pick up my phone and spend time on it.  Wait for something to be said and then point out that this is what I have been dealing with for a long time and it stops now.  Of course, this is hypothetical, but either show by example, speak up, or move on.

Totally unbelievably unnaceptable.

I wouldn't even explain to her or ask her to stop.

Anyone who is that inconsiderate to their customers, I just would not go back.

The only time I had a hairdresser take a phone call, she said excuse me, she had to take that, and it was a short call.
