I was wanting to ask you to post a pic, @gidgetgh.  I like it but I no longer like my ears 😜 Did you say it was a scissor cut though?

@tansy - scissor cut.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

I really dislike super short hair plus it’s too high maintenance.

How about both?  I used to have a similar cut, and loved it, when I still colored my hair. Now my natural hair is more grey underneath so the pixie side no longer works

Short hair, like a pixie, can be aging if it's not a edgy style. Leaving the top (bang & crown area) long enough for full side bangs, using a wax to add spikes and lift at the crown, etc.

IMHO, "Soccer Mom" hair with short layers in a stiff style is more aging than an updated, sassy pixie.

To pull off a pixie, you do need earrings and a bit more makeup to look feminine. Not a big deal to me. I like getting out of the shower, mousse, move it around with my fingers and done w/ the hair. Now let's have fun with makeup!!!

Soccer Mom?

@mom2four0418     Around my area, the haircut that is "short", not a pixie, not a longer cut, lots of short layers falling just below the ears was called "soccer mom" style. It seemed when we all hit 40, the mothers cut off their hair to this style.

On the other hand, I love wearing my hair short.

Longer, my hair always looked like Janis Joplin hair.  I'm just not cut out for longer hair.

I've been wearing it short, like Jamie Lee Curtis short, for years.

In February, I asked the stylist to go just a tinch shorter and I had taken my glasses off so I couldn't see till she finished and yikes!  She scalped me.  I was kind of shocked, but I didn't say anything other than "that's short!"  I don't have a lot of ego about stuff like that and it would grow out quickly.

And you know what?   I have gotten more compliments on my hair since February than I have my entire life.  I believe they call it "ultra short" and I love it.  It's still a scissor cut.  It is really, really short.

I had to laugh a little. A few posters mentioned that with short hair it looks like you've given up.  That's kind of how I feel sometimes when I see women with really long hair just pulled back all the time.

It is all a matter of personal preference. One isn't more stylish than the other, in my opinion.

@gidgetgh   Pullimg off an ultra short "do" does takes confidence to pull it off. Congrats! Mine is not THAT short since I leave the top longer. I wear mine short to control the waves and curls.Yes, you have to have the right face shape. My face is small (body petite), small ears and nose and large eyes with ample brows. It does require more frequent cuts, but I no longer have to pay for color, so I don't mind that.

I suppose that it is another example of labelling a group of people. Perhaps it is tatamount to the term "old lady hair."

I love short hair.  Mine is not as short as the picture of the "pixie" but it is still what I would consider a pixie.  My hair is moderately curly and I have it a little longer on the top and a little messy.  It does require upkeep.  I get it trimmed every three weeks and I get I get many compliments on it.   I have had random people on stores, the library, etc. ask where I get my hair cut so it must not be too bad!

@mom2four0418  Not really since we were in our late 30's and early 40's...not old ladies at all. A style that is predominant during a certain period of time is not exactly "labeling"....Just like white boots and mini skirts.
