or, a Pixie and just fogettaboutit and leave the hair behind. DH has said at times something about women looking like they "gave up" when their hair is short, but I mean, really? Balding men get to say how we wear our hair?
I'll know by the time of my appt tomorrow. I'm leaning towards the blunt bob.
Funny but my husband said the same thing about short hair @Sweetbay magnolia . The issue for myself with pixie hairstyles is my jawline isn't as defined as it once was and I like the softness a chin length hairstyle with a few layers gives me. From my observations over the years, few women have the features and firm jawline they had in their youth to carry off pixie hairstyles. However, a lot of stylists suggest them. My hairdresser told me, her pixie clients need her to shape their hair monthly...definitely an incentive she said to suggest them.😄
I hope you get a hairdo that you love. Let us know how things went at the salon.🌺

Short hair, especially pixies, takes 10+ years off a women over 40. My friends hate when I say that but it is a Fashion truth.

I don't know. I think the opposite sometimes. Every woman over 40 or 50 with the obligatory short hair has put 10 years onto their age to me.

Short hair, like a pixie, can be aging if it's not a edgy style. Leaving the top (bang & crown area) long enough for full side bangs, using a wax to add spikes and lift at the crown, etc.
IMHO, "Soccer Mom" hair with short layers in a stiff style is more aging than an updated, sassy pixie.
To pull off a pixie, you do need earrings and a bit more makeup to look feminine. Not a big deal to me. I like getting out of the shower, mousse, move it around with my fingers and done w/ the hair. Now let's have fun with makeup!!!

The way you described that pixie cut is just the way the woman I know who always looks good. And she does wear a lot of makeup and earrings!
Then there is short and there is short.
The aging kind to me is the short, kind of bubble cut and severe in the back. You can look at all these ladies around the same age sitting at church and their hair all looks the same. And I think how I would change it up to make it look more feminine and flattering.

Not a fan of super short hair.

OK, so I went with a chin length blunt-ish bob. She did that magical thing with her scissors that adds just a touch of angle at the ends, and there's no extreme back to front angle in the line of the profile. I love it!
My hair is naturally pretty straight (some waves, sometimes) and I must say my natural color for 61 is still fantastic. I've got some strands of grey but I don't mind.
I shampoo infrequently and don't heat style, ever, so the shine is nice and the sleek simple bob (I think) works very well. I've enjoyed the angled to the front ones but the hair always seemed to be in my face. This feels light and I can tuck it behind the ear and it looks cute.
I've done the spiky pixie thing but since my eyes seem to be receding (age!) I don't find it as attractive. And I hate dealing with sideburns, bangs, and the grow-out thing. This I can wear for some months and it will look nice.
I'm glad I went with this cut. There's some edge if I choose to play with the part. Did I mention, no bangs? I have an extremely high forehead and those little baby hairs are better long than on my old sweaty forehead.
Enjoy your great hair days when you can! Thank you, my friends, for the help with perspective.

@tampalady wrote:I have tried ever hairstyle long, short, bob, pixie etc. I would be bald if I could. I wear it short with a wedge. I have cowlicks everywhere and hair does what it wants, no matter how much I work with it. I just cut some of my sides yesterday, because I could not get them under control. I have friends that there hair always looks the same, mine never looks the same. I finally gave up trying and will always wear my hair short.
Ha ha, @tampalady . I would be bald if I could! I have felt that way, myself. I did an extreme shaved look a few years back (long top, total back door fade) and it was fun. Don't think I could pull it off now. Plus it grows so quickly.

The truth is pixies look bad on women with full faces and soft jawlines. It adds, instead of taking years off and looks less feminine.

Why dont you try a long layered pixie? Best of both worlds, and if you dont like it youre not to far away from a longer length.
