Re: Had dinner at two new restaurants

I love trying new places but usually look at the menu online.

@Mom2Dogs   I also prefer basic "good" food and nothing fancy. I do a lot of cooking at home, so when we go out it's usually for Japanese food cooked on the "table grill", Chinese food or Tex/ Mex. I'm not big on French food or items with sauces or weird ingredients.

Re: Had dinner at two new restaurants

We just had this basic discussion.

Next month we will be meeting old friends in LV. She loves culinary adventures such as Greek, Mandarin Chinese, Lebanese, etc. We prefer simple foods.

We have agreed on an Italian.

Going to see Lionel Richey!

@Sooner   In our area that type of eating would not make it...there are items on the menu for gluten free eating but grain bowls, etc would not make it in my aream (at least for a stand alone restaurant). lol...we are a cattle raising area and people want their meat.

@cindyNC   As a group of 4 we decided to try the new restaurant. Something new in my small area is a big deal.   Generally I can find something to eat, I mostly enjoy getting out with friends and chit chat.

@Mom2Dogs I grew up in farming and ranching.  I still love and eat beef but not as much.  The meat we had was grain and pasture raised, slaughtered a little younger than what market wants and fabulous.

But we just don't eat at restaurants any more (did it so often when we worked we don't want to now), and although barbecue brisket and burgers are still tops with almost everyone for a treat, there is a big market for Asian, Indian, and Greek food here, and Mexican and South American fare is a really big part of our regional diet--it can be made lighter than commercial most often, but lots of beans, brown rice, peppers, onions and tomatoes and heat!

Re: Had dinner at two new restaurants

I like to explore new restaurants but always check out the menu online first.

For the most part, my friends and family prefer a meat and three type restaurant (Ex....Bob Evans).  Not that those restaurants are necessarily bad or anything but I much prefer to go to ethnic restaurants or places that have things that I don't normally make at home (or the restaurant makes it much better than I can).

When I'm on vacation, I refuse to go to chain restaurants that I have at home.  I opt for the local restaurants or chains I'm not familiar with.  Of course, I will still peruse the menu online first though.

Re: Had dinner at two new restaurants

Mayonnaise doesn’t belong on a chef salad. Yuck.
What restaurant does that? It should have been a traditional salad dressing. Maybe is it a regional thing?
Sorry your lunch snd dinners turned out to be disappointing. Like u said dining is expensive.🙁
