Just wondering........Do the rooms have a strong sanitizer odor?

Years and years ago, we stayed at a hotel and the scent/odor in rooms was very strong.

Found out that the night before, there were graduation parties going on at that hotel, and staff had to over-sanitize because of the various drinking parties and things associated with over-drinking, etc.

In our hotel it didn't smell like sanitizer.  The air freshner pumped through the system smelled like flowers.  It might have been a little stronger than usual because my allergies kicked in.  I don't remember my room having any odor.

@Desertdi

So right.  Prior to pandemic we were at hotel where remote was in plastic covering but I noticed something like pizza residue between some numbers.

Cleaning supplies will be staple when traveling from now on..... Although it will be a challenge when not traveling by car.

None of what the OP described seems like it would be a fun getaway.

@CelticCrafter   If it was a vacation or a longer stay, you're right. This was 2 nights to visit my 94 yr. old favorite and only aunt and my other family I haven't seen in a year.

@ROMARY   No, there was not a hint of odor from cleaning products. There were a few people who were always cleaning counters where you check in/out, the free coffee area in lobby and the seating areas. IF we had not been vaccinated, I may have not gone to a hotel at all, but everyone seemed to be following the "wear your masks in all public areas" signs.

Re: HOTEL EXPERIENCE (NEW NORMAL)?

Every time we venture out, it's a cwap shoot...even at the grocery store. There still IS a pandemic and some states have a lot of cases. I feel "safer" since I've had my vaccine. That's still not a guarantee that people around you are not symptom free, positive and don't know it, etc.

As long as some people refuse to wear masks or get vaccinated, we all will be wearing masks to protect ourselves. It stinks.

I don't need housekeeping on a daily basis, I try to catch them when they are on my floor to get more coffee, towels & dump my trash.

I have always carried my own cleaning supplies.

Takes me a few minutes to spray down or wipe down surfaces

I've gone to a casino (not Vegas) a few times in the past 12 months, the air purification has been upgraded for which I am very grateful.   Respiratory illnesses of all kinds are common & dangerous.   Keeping the air clean is one big step in the right direction,

@software   There were no housekeeping carts in the hallways. Anything you needed? Pick up at front desk. BTW, this was not the Ritz Carlton...rahter a Hitlton hotel. Maybe higher end hotels have different services available.

I did pack Clorox wipes, our own sink and shower soaps (never like those tiny ones that are gone by the end of the day) and definitely slippers.

I don't understand the reason to not have daily housekeeping.

The housekeepers must come on the floor, cleaning the rooms just vacated.

I've never needed daily housekeeping, even before the pandemic, I'd rather not have anyone in my room when I'm not there.

I am amazed to hear how far behind the current science the industry is.   Are so many people still so fearful Covid is spread by touch and not via the air that they wouldn't stay in a room without all those protections?

@millieshops exactly.  The CDC has known for a year that the chances of getting Covid from surfaces was NIL but yet waited until recently to make the grand announcement.  Yet we keep seeing signs, commercials, etc. about all the sanitizing, etc.

All this stuff covered in plastic is disgusting and doesn't even make sense.  If you could get Covid from touching whatever it is you are touching, how does anyone think you couldn't get it from touching the plastic covering everything?  And don't even get me started on nasty gloves people are wearing over and over and touching everything with.  So silly.

Re: HOTEL EXPERIENCE (NEW NORMAL)?

Does this hotel not realize that all of that Sanitizing Protection actually does no good what so ever.  Its a complete waste of their time and money.  As a paying customer I don't want to see everything covered in plastic.  Honestly that wouldn't make me feel "safe" at all.  It actually makes me feel gross just reading it.

Personally, whether the CDC thinks it's necessary or not, I felt better knowing the room was sanitized. Restaurants are still cleaning their surfaces, sanitizing and wearing gloves, too.

Re: HOTEL EXPERIENCE (NEW NORMAL)?

Hotels have changed for good.  We've been in 5 mid range properties in CA and AZ since this began.  If you want your room cleaned you need to give 24 HR notice, no touch check in, brown bag breakfast etc.  One thing I noticed at last hotel ( during Spring Training in Phoenix when all rates are inflated) was a number of "down and out" type guests.  I'm pretty sure Phoenix and other metro cities are now contracting some of their rooms to house homeless, due to Covid.  I felt safe but not relaxed, seeing this.
