Re: HOTEL EXPERIENCE (NEW NORMAL)?

Which is why I don't intend to stay in a hotel until things are closer to normal.  When I travel, I want comfort and I wanted to be pampered.  I don't just want to be safe.  I'm safe at home.  Although, I think not all hotel experiences are  as austere as yours.

Re: HOTEL EXPERIENCE (NEW NORMAL)?

I was in Las Vegas as well last week.  Maybe our paths crossed.  I didn't notice much of a difference either.  The note on the room door stated it had been sanitized and I didn't ask to have my room cleaned again.  Masks and hand sanitizer were provided if needed.  The casinos were kept very clean.  The only difference was that the buffet was closed and no car valet.

Even before the pandemic I always tell housekeeping to skip my room and if I need anything I will call down to the front desk.  I just don't like having anyone I don't know come into the room while away.

Re: HOTEL EXPERIENCE (NEW NORMAL)?

A few weeks ago we were on Sping Break in a college town in VA. The hotel where we stayed did not have daily housekeeping service either.  The thermostat, phone and remote were out in the open an not in plastic. Each day I would sit the trash can outside the door when we headed out fo the day and we we returned it had been emptied and left by the door. If there was anything we needed, we could call the front desk and they woud bring it to our room by a masked staff member.

There was free continental breakfast and they had a sign up to please use the provided deli paper when using the tongs to get food.

Re: HOTEL EXPERIENCE (NEW NORMAL)?

I'm looking forward to a much anticipated trip in five weeks. I've travelled a lot for pleasure, and for my job, and have always been aware of the cleanliness (or not) in airplanes, hotels, and restaurants. The thing about touching the t.v. remote control, toilet flush lever, etc. was common knowledge. I've always been big on handwashing and portable sanitizer. Masking is uncomfortable but necessary. None of the Covid precautions will "ruin" my trip.

Re: HOTEL EXPERIENCE (NEW NORMAL)?

We were in Tyson's Corners (near DC)  to visit family a few weeks ago.  Stayed in a hotel.

Room was sanitized, no housekeeping unless we requested it...and we were fine with that.

They still had a 24 hour coffee machine in the lobby but instead of a breakfast buffee, we were given a brown bag breakfast.  It was pretty bad.  A few granola bars, container of orange juice and a really hard sour apple. LOL

None of what the OP described seems like it would be a fun getaway.

Re: HOTEL EXPERIENCE (NEW NORMAL)?

Just wondering........Do the rooms have a strong sanitizer odor?

Years and years ago, we stayed at a hotel and the scent/odor in rooms was very strong.

Found out that the night before, there were graduation parties going on at that hotel, and staff had to over-sanitize because of the various drinking parties and things associated with over-drinking, etc.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

I remember my 1st day working in a huge hotel kitchen. Sure, the employee who was running the dishwasher was wearing gloves, but the gloved hands that loaded it were the same gloved hands that emptied it. LOL!

Muddling through...

Re: HOTEL EXPERIENCE (NEW NORMAL)?

Family members traveled to visit family in Memphis.  They had to leave first hotel because of obvious lack of cleanliness and care.  Second one better.  They report that hotels having difficulty finding cleaning personnel.  Putting oneself out to clean vs. Unemployment.

Hotels cleaning before check-in and not again until leave.  As long as done well before,  I am comfortable with that process.  It will be a challenge for people who travel this summer.
