Gymnastics, cheerleading, etc.

Saw a show on Cheerleading competitions.  Like the olympics, what a lot of hard work and dedication these youngsters must have. They are amazing. In the olympics the floor routeins, balance beams, etc,  what a lot of dedication these kids have. The pyramids, look very dangerous, but they do them.

Anyone do that as a youngster that might have led to other things in that area? Wow.

One of the girls that was in my GS troop many years ago is a HS cheerleader at our local school.

My older daughter did those. The cheerleading had no risky activities. I couldn't watch her do balance beam in gymnastics. My 4 year old twin granddaughters were in a gymnastics class. Their balance beam is on the floor.

One of my granddaughters is a high school cheerleader!

She is very good at it but I do worry about how they flip and throw each other!  I close my eyes when I see her in action like that!  It seems so dangerous but then a lot of things are I guess!!

Re: Gymnastics, cheerleading, etc.

I'm assuming OP meant beyond h.s.  My girls are in their early 30's and they took gymnastics and dancing.  I think all the little girls took either gymnastics or dancing....or both.  They didn't like gymnastics after the first couple of years; they stayed with dancing through h.s.  One of their friends started gymnastics around age 3 and while she never did well in competition, she didn't have a  classic gymnast's body.  She continued taking classes, became an assistant coach while she was in h.s. and now she owns a dancing/gymnastics school for kids.  She does some local judging too.

Re: Gymnastics, cheerleading, etc.

My daughter did gymnastics and received a college scholarship.  We have many great memories and also many bad ones. She made wonderful friends but was also treated badly by some teammates. All in all her experiences prepared her for life in general. She's now in her mid-thirties and all the pounding her body took is now taking it's toll but if you ask her she would do it all again. As a parent, it was hard to watch her deal with the difficulties but they prepared her well to be adult so I'm grateful.
