Graduation Gift

[ Edited ]

With my nephews graduation from high school coming up soon and I am a bit low on money these days, now that I am divorced !   I am going to give money, that is his favorite gift lol.

Is $50 too little ?  Should I save up as best I can to give him $100?  I want to be generous but cant afford alot but dont want  to come off as cheap! His family and other aunts and uncles have money to spare.

Give what you are able to afford.  Any amount should be appreciated.

Admittedly, we have been giving $100 to close family member graduates, but no....$50 is not too little a gift. I see lots of graduates happily receiving that amount or less in a card.

Agreeing with @mimomof4 - give what you can comfortably afford from your heart.

I gave my husband’s nephew $100 last year . I did receive a generic printed thank you obviously for everyone. I never see him.

I wish I had sent $50, I didn’t eat out with friends for two weeks!

I think $50 is fine!

I think 50.00 is a great gift, and more important you are very thoughtful, giving him what most kids want and need these days.

$50.00 for a HS graduation gift in my family is very appropriate.

If $40.00 works better for your budget, that would be well received, too.

@FlowerBear  you give what you can afford. I would buy a nice card and write a personal message inside. Don't worry what other people think.

That is more than fine.  When my SO's nephew graduated from high school, we did give a quite generous money gift but my SO made a little book of quotes to help in life and he found that  to be the best gift ever  and to this day (15 years later) he still mentions those quotes.  He now has 2 sons and he says he will be giving copies to them when they graduate high school.
