Two things I considered when we bought our house was the slope of the driveway, and the direction it faced. A level driveway was a must, and I'm so happy for a Southern exposure. Our last house faced North. Now it can be 20 degrees outside, but strong sunshine will melt a couple inches of snow.

@AuntG   My drive is the same way.  When we built our house, we bought a level lot and my drive way is not in front of my house, but on the side.

We have a corner lot.

We also have a a couple of snow blowers.  A few smaller ones and one huge one.

My DH picked a few smaller snow blowers out of a municipal building dumpster and asked if he could have them.

He fixed them up and got them running.  We kept one in addition to the two we already had and gave a few away to those who needed one.

They are a life saver.  Most of my neighbors have the huge blowers too.  Sometimes the residents clear the streets themselves before the plow gets here and they dig out widows, single ladies and older folks who can't shovel.

If there is a big storm, unless you are required in some way to go out in it, just stay home anyway.

I don't go anywhere in a snowstorm. Hunker down, warm and safe at home.

Have you lost power? I just did and it's not fun! I'm on an iPad with subscription internet. Sitting in the dark with candlelight makes me stir crazy!

We are having a lot of heavy wind and rain. I would rather have power than sit here in the dark. Fingers crossed 🤞 that power comes back on soon!

@haddon9 That must be the system we are getting today.  Snow, freezing rain and rain.  It will be a mess!  Hope you get your power back soon.  đź¤ž

The storm that is currently moving east covered us with 12" of heavy, wet snow yesterday over ice. Now the high winds are causing drifts. More snow due in today and Friday. Ugh.

I usually plow myself out even though I'm in my 70s. But not this time. My brother arranged for someone to plow for me, bless his heart.

Our driveway is 1/4 mile long.  We have a plow on our jeep. The driveway is slightly uphill.

We can get snowed in because the road to the main highway is not always plowed. It is about 3/10 s of a mile to the main highway. We also have a Generac because we do lose power frequently.

@CalminHeart , we look after our own as well. Double wide circular drive.  I keep in shape and one of the reasons is so I can help DH.  He on the snowblower, me shovelling.  Good exercise.  In the fluffy stuff we got two days ago I shovelled us out and two neighbours.

With the heavy wet stuff, I will only do us.

We have a side by side.  I offered to get a plow for it but so far no takers.  We are your age.

I am glad your brother will help with the heavy stuff.  My neighbour usually looks after us.  We are blessed to have great neighbours.
