Glad to be home, came home This morning.Seems I was bitten by, the drs think, a brown recluse spider.I woke up Thursday feeling like I had the flu , my , knee was hurting . asked my husband to look at the back of it. It had a welt ,lump the size of a lemon, and within hrs started to develop a hole in it and was turning purple . We went to ER, was admitted and long story short I was there till today. They surgically removed a 2 inch by 2 inch area of dead tissue. It seems they got it all.It is packed I was on IV for antibiotics and pain meds.I have a nurse coming every day for the next two weeks and may need a skin graft to cover this. All from a spider not even widely living here in NY. First case they have seen in along time.Watch out while out and about... Hugs, Maryanne

I'm so happy that you are home and seems like the worst is behind you right now! And I'm sorry you had to go through it at all.
Your story is a good reminder to all of us to pay careful attention to how we are feeling, what might be going on with our bodies, and seek help in a timely manner, not wait and wonder if it will be ok.
Take it easy, rest, and take care of yourself. And again, so very glad you are home and doing better.

Good heavens. That's terrible and very scary. I hope you are on the mend and feeling better. I read a story in our local news about the exact same thing except the person was much sicker and hospitalized much longer than you were. Same spider. Apparently with global warming and climate change, those spiders are moving into areas that they were not in before.

@Still keeper of the koi OMG, that was really scary for you. I'm glad you will be OK. I've always heard about that spider and I've seen pictures, but never heard of any being around here (Ohio). I remember hearing they hide in places like shoes, etc......thus, the recluse name. Thanks for reminding us to be diligent about such things. It's surprising to me that you were bitten and didn't even feel anything........very scary.

Thank you all for welcoming me home.Dr's said if I had had a wait and see attitude with this a few more hours would have had dire consequences . I was blessed to have drs who realized it was necrotizing quickly and wanted to do surgery immediately regardless of what they didn't know, as it is it is almost down to bone . I was in ICU for 2 days. Please if nothing else if something doesn't feel or look right ,seek medical help. This gave me breathing problems and dropping pressure it is frightening if I hadn't went in quickly...Thanks again, hugs, Maryanne
