@4kitties   What is a WW Exchange Program from the 80's? That's what I didn't understand. Thanks.

@Shanus

After the virus mess, several of us wanted to lose the pounds that had crept up, so we held hands and charged onward!

Quick Success was the most efficient WW plan and is better than the plans that they have added so much "fluff" to that people can't lose with any efficient results.

One of the posters wanted to lose weight and I tried to lend her a hand.

@ECBG  @4kitties  Thanks for explaining the "WW".

Believe it or not, I was on WW for a full year after giving birth to my daughter 49 yrs. ago and putting on 50-60 lbs. on my very small frame. This was my 1st pregancy, twins ran in our family and this was before ultrasound, so as long as I was "healthy", the docs let the weight gain go.

I stupidly thought that you had the baby and you wake up (C section) and the weight is gone when you leave the hospital. Uh, a BIG NO!

When I found WW, went to meetings, followed the diet strictly (don't remember if points or exchanges, etc.), but it did take almost a year to lose that weight.

I went back to my healthy, pre-pregnancy weight of 105 lbs. It's a wonderful program, but I followed it to the letter.

Glad to see the WW Exchange gang again @SouthernBee @ECBG @4kitties @Flatbush

I went on a 1 hour bike ride and feel great.

Adding more protein to breakfast and lunch helps me.

I'm trying to maintain.

No bread at night, 1/2 sandwich at lunch, fruit in late afternoon, A glass of white zin, dinner with maybe one scoop of ice cream in a custard cup.

I'm not steaming vegies, but roasting.  We rarely have shredded cheddar in the house any longer!  The vegies are 10,000 x better!

@texassunflower    I believe "free" means totally unlimited to many people who say they followed the plan and couldn't lose weight.   That may well be true, but it's also possible some don't pay attention to what I remember went with the free foods when I used WW and lost weight -   foods were free IF you were really hungry, but I do remember lecturers advising to be sure you were hungry and not eating for some other reason.

I've down-sized my homes 3 times since I last belonged to WW and all my materials sold at yard sales., but even without the materials, I successfully used the exchanges again after eating too many foods of lots of kinds when I should have been thinking more carefully.

In the last 5 years, I have pretty much followed that exchange program for maintenance but I give myself a bit more freedom.  However, I am in much better control and go immediately back to the exchanges as soon as I see 2 extra pounds on my scale.

I have never been on Weight Watchers and know almost nothing about it.

I am an Eat Fewer Calories type of dieter and want something more. The pounds do not come off nearly as quickly as they did in the past.

Is there an easy to understand and follow book that anyone can recommend?

Thanks in advance.

@DREAMON

If you do not care for the Weight Watcher plan mentioned here, the old Richard Simmons Deal a Meal plan is very easy to follow.  I think he may still have it available on his website.  It is an exchange plan too.  I still use my Deal a Meal food mover sometimes when I need to be more vigilant with my portions.

The WW plan is pretty much a 1200 calorie diet.  I have modified it a bit as I am in maintenance and like to get in about 1500 to 1600 calories.

I have another book, The Woman's Day Weight-Loss Plan by Kathy Keenan Isoldi. It is very good and easy to follow.  Has a lot of recipes included in the book.

I am now 67, but I lost most of my weight after 60.  It is slower to come off now, but do not be discouraged.  Just keep with it.  It will come off.  I have been maintaining now for a little over 5 years.  I weigh at least once a week, and when I know I am getting carried away with portion sizes, I get the food scale and measuring cups out again!

@4kitties , Thanks so much for your suggestions..I totally forgot about Richard Simmons.

I used his plan in the 80's after pregnancy and had success. I am going to look into it again.Woman Happy
