I can recall as a child,  attendants washing the windshield and checking the oil. It was a big deal for my Mother to have to pump her own gas later on. Some stations still had gifts with gas purchases, dishes in glass cabinets in the middle.

And drinking glasses too!  I think it was Mobil that had them.  Same with detergent boxes lol.

And best of all, the gas was 25 cents a gallon!!!   Ah, the good old days.

There is still  an old "general store" with ONE PUMP outside, up a highway from where I live.

I have no idea if it's the owners "joke"...or people actually stop there.

Rolling over the hose on the ground that signaled for the attendant.

There's always a lot to be thankful for if you take time to look for it.
For example, I am sitting here thinking how nice it is that wrinkles don't hurt.

Full service for sure, even into the early 90's I remember my local gas station would check under the hood and pump my gas too. Boy are things different now LOL

I remember a station that still did all of that when I was a child in the 70s. (I don't know if they all still did at that time, but there was one that my dad's friend owned and they did.) I'm not sure when it phased out completely. I remember thinking it was fun to go with my dad to get gas, and I also loved the drive through car washes! Smiley LOL

Our gas stationi in town did that.  I think those guys were the worst gossips.  They got the lowdown on everyone while they were pumping gas and chatting with customers Smiley Very HappySmiley LOLSmiley LOL

Getting my license in 1964, I remember Esso (now Exon Mobile) who had a tiger as their mascot.  A tiger tail that I hung out of my car trunk was given as a token gift with a fill-up.  Many stations had giveaways at that time and I also made a complete set of glasses and an ice bucket w/tongs that were put in my "Hope chest" and were used for many years after getting married.  Happily we still don't have to pump our own gas in NJ, something I prefer not to do.
