Only the females are venomous.  They're the larger ones.  The red spot on the abdomen is difficult to see since it's underneath, but they also have small red dots in a straight line down the middle of the back.  They have very messy webs, kinda like they were drunk when they did it.

I try to leave them all (spiders) alone as long as they stay outside.

Do both the males and the females have the red spot?

@SilleeMee.  And tarantulas hide in bunches of bananas.  It's a jungle out there.

I thought they hung around dark places and moisture. So by outdoor spicket and hose. Odd it was on east coast. I thought they were more south. Maybe it crawled out of a bag of grapes!

When I was working at a resort (with 8 swimming pools).....the tarantulas used to come out at night to sip water from the pools.

They were the size of dinner platters....and the engineering crew would bag them,  toss them in the bed of their pickup, and drive them back out to the desert.

We have piles of large rocks between us and the neighbor's driveway to help hold up the hill.  Apparently, they like rock piles too.

How fun to live among the tarantulas.  It's suppose to be their mating season when they migrate in large masses right now.  I suppose AZ. has them as does Southern NM.

My son had one as a pet as a teenager.  That's boys for you.

Yikes! We have black widow spiders here in the Desert and they have a wicked, poisonous bite. Here, the hide in dark spaces and have a really strong, sticky like web.
The tarantulas we have where I live are generally not aggressive and though they can bite, fortunately, they aren't poisonous like they are in other areas.

@Kachina624      I had a friend who had one of those BIG spiders sitting on her driveway.......so she decided to SHOOT IT.    Got the spider, but she blew a hole in the driveway so big, she had to have it repaved...    di
