As there are varied problems with different dog breeds, one area is hard to tell apart: The Pitt Bull.
Since many people have written about them, others have fear and few people know the difference.
NO dog should ever be chained or chilsd left alone with ANY dog.

FROM www.dogsbite.org -
In the 11-year period of 2005 through 2015, canines killed 360 Americans. Pit bulls contributed to 64% (232) of these deaths.
Here's the chart -

I never thought I'd post about a pit bull, but last month I got bitten by my daughter's pit bull. The dog bit me while I was petting her other dog (which is not a pit bull.) I literally had to pry the dogs jaw open to make it let go of my hand and when I did, the pit bull went after the other dog. It was HORRIBLE. Luckily the other dog only suffered a minor injury but what I witnessed has totally changed my opinion about the breed. Up until then, I truly thought it was an owner problem, but I believe now it IS the breed.

It IS the breed. Too bad pitbull owners refuse to admit it.

In addition to the general awfulness of what happened, there was NO warning that the dog was going to attack. One second it was sitting there and the next I had its teeth clamped on my hand.
I will say though that I was able to open the jaw, but the ferocity of the attack was unreal.

How long did she have the dog and did it show this behavior before? What has happened to the dog?

My son had a Pit Bull and he was the sweetes thing. They never had a problem with him. They had to put him down a couple of months ago and now they have another own. We will see what happens with this one. I know there are alot of horror stories out there but I'm sure not all of them are like that. I would never have one though. Thanks.

@pinkcrystal I hope you reported it. Just think if this dog latched on to a small child's arm. I feel for the other dog in the family.
It really is your responsibilty to alert the authorities, family or not.

This chart was in the SF paper yesterday. The numbers tell the story. Pit Bulls FAR outnumber any breed in attacks and deaths. http://www.dogsbite.org/pdf/dog-attack-deaths-maimings-merritt-clifton-2014.pdf

There really aren't various types of Pit Bulls. There are several breeds who are often mislabeled as a Pit Bull but there really isn't even any such breed as a Pit Bull.
Different breeds are called Pit bulls when in fact they are other breeds. We have owned boxers, full bred boxers and I cannot tell you the number of people who insist they are Pits. My neighbor was terrified of our white boxer to the point if she and/or her kids were outside in the backyard (our yards are fenced) and we let our dog out, they would run screaming in the house.
