Just curious if anyone else goes through this with family members. Dh will only eat certain foods with certain other foods(my sons were the same way). For instance, steak with some type of potato, pork chops with baked sweet potatoes, unless there's gravy. Then it can be rice or mashed potatoes. Pork and beans with hot dogs. Heaven forbid, you should make hamburgers with them!😅 They even want certain vegetables with certain foods. Tonight we've having Salmon. He likes yellow rice with it and asparagus. I've been wanting to make potato salad. Of course, he says, "it doesn't go together!" Anyone else have to deal with this? Geesh!😋🤣😂

I don't have to deal with that I live it! Some foods demand certain accompaniments or they just aren't right.
Pork with some form of cabbage, turkey and dressing, chili and cornbread.
There are some sandwiches I will only eat on a particular type of bread.

Good grief, no I have never dealt with a certain food will only go with certain food person. What a pain and how boring for you.
Your hubby and son would be cooking in my house, I grew up eating what Mom fixed and you ate it or went without. It was the same for my kids growin up too and for my hubby now. Im lucky I dont have a picky husband.

@Starpolisher You had me laughing here!!! I call MY husband picky, but he's an amateur compared to yours.
See... his mother was the best cook in the state of CT. There's not a thing she cooked that wasn't delicious. I had a hard act to follow. And I've been trying to follow it for 54 years. But I'm 75 now and I'm getting tired of all the cooking (lazy?). So I'm really trying to downplay suppers. So far, I'm getting away with it. {*_*}

I fall into the "that doesn't go together" category when it comes to what I prepare, serve, eat at home. But I'm really easy when it comes to food and have hardly met a food I didn't like...so I will eat whatever when out or at the home of others. And my husband, he will combine and eat anything and everything together. And there have been some weird combos!!! 😲

@Imaoldhippie, I have little doubt that how foods were combined when growing up plays a big part in how I only enjoy certain foods with particular accompaniments.
Since I cook for myself it isn't a problem, it is natural.

No .
Your family must be a night mare for a restaurant when they go out to eat .
Lessons in flexibility is what most of us learn as children .
If they want some kind of " special " combination then they can bring it themselves to my dinner if they don't like what I cook.

I prefer flavors that compliment each other; some flavors bring to mind other foods. Stratigies of meal planning brings in a lot of aspects.
I love the combination of turkey, dressing, and cranberry sauce.
I wouldn't want the flavors of potato salad with salmon which goes well with asparagus, spinach, a green salad, and many potato dishes.

For me, he/she who b*tches, cooks.

I'm a "little" that way. I just think there are certain foods that go better with other foods more than others but I would never say something to anyone who had prepared the meal.
Sometimes, I'll read here on the boards what people are having for a meal and I'll think the combination is strange to me. But, on the other hand, I've gotten ideas to pare certain side dishes with a protein that I hadn't thought of before too.
