We (okay, my husband) makes all kinds of soup quite often. It is always a type that we consider a main dish. I almost never order it on the few occasions when we dine out, but he will often do so.

I love soup, probably got the taste from my grandfather, who had homemade soup before every dinner, all four seasons. I'm the champ of the family when it comes to my chicken noodle soup and matzoh ball soup. I also make bean soups, lentil soups, and split pea soup with ham. My favorite soups eaten in a restaurant were very specific. The best minestrone soup I ever ate was in an Italian restaurant in Québec City. The best gazpacho was at a French/Spanish restaurant in Paris. I don't think I'll return to either place but the memory lingers on.

My favorite soup is New England Clam Chowder. Doesn't matter if it's restaurant, canned, or homemade.

@ DiAnn - Pea Soup Andersen's....what a joke. Actually calling themselves that as if they are known for great pea soup. Worst I ever tasted.

I love soup. My grandmother was a great soup lover and made the most delicious soups. Her speciality was split pea with ham or sometimes pieces of hot dogs. Thick and deliciojus. A meal in itself. She also made a fantastic Italian wedding soup and a great minestrone. I grew up on the east coast, live in SoCal, but still love soup year-round. Another favorite is barley soup.

Hi, @Andreatoo ! This is a favorite in our home: Chicken Torilla Soup. You can use precooked chicken (eg, Costco, I get mine in out supermarket deli). It's delicious!

Sounds good! Have you tried it using the Rotel tomatoes?

Haven't used Rotel but I'm sure you could. Be sure to use Ortega green chiles not jalapeños! My husband made it once for me when I got home with canned jalapeños instead of green chiles and it was too hot to eat! LOL
ETA: just add the equivalent amount of tomatoes and adjust the green chiles as necessary.
