Re: Food talk: What is your favorite........

[ Edited ]

Here are my favorites:

Matzoh Ball soup (has to be homemade matzoh balls).  I use to eat this  in California at a restaurant in the mall  in Menlo Park.

Brocolli Cheddar (Panera Bread restaurant)

Homemade Vegetable Beef (I make a yummy one)

French Onion in a restaurant  with cheese all melted on top

I also love Alessi soups in an pouch (just add water).  The spilt pea is excellent so are the pasta bean soups.

I loved my dad's homemade ham and bean soup. He and I were the only ones who liked it. He'd make a pot and share it with me. I've not had it since he passed many years ago. Yum.

Re: Food talk: What is your favorite........

I did not grow up eating soup.  The only time I had it as a child was when us kids had a cold.  My father gave us chicken, noodle & tomato(w/crushed up Saltines) soups.  In my 70's now,  I can count on ONE hand the times I've had soup as an adult.

@mspatmac"Love French Onion"

I was an adult the first time I had French Onion soup.  It was at a restaurant.  Medium size bowl bubbling over w/cheese.  I was in pigs heaven.  Hooked ever since.  I hardly see it on the menu in Joisey.  It's on the menue in most restaurants in Philly.  French Onion soup regional?

@Andreatoo  I was born to make soup! My favorite to eat is French Onion Soup, but it does take a long time to make. Today I made potato, kale and kielbasa soup. I know it's 93 degrees out, but I don't care. It's so much fun to make soups from all around the world! My grandmother has a slippery chicken pot pie recipe in the Mennonite Cookbook. I guess that would be my favorite soup to make.

Re: Food talk: What is your favorite........

I love soup!!  All kinds.  Some of my favorites, I rarely eat because they are quite unhealthy (cream based or cheese based).

When the weather is cooler/cold, I make a lot of soup.  Most often a variation of vegetarian vegetable bean soup.  The veggies and the beans change based on what I have.... It's just a staple in my diet all winter to eat extra veggies.  When I run out, I just make more.  It's really just part of my routine.

I eat a lot of veggies. I save odds and ends (in the freezer) to make my own stock.  I order a variety heirloom dried beans from a ranch in California. I make pasta, barley or rice separarely to add in to the soup.  This is so all the broth doesn't get soaked up by the starch.

When out, if given the choice, I order soup.  Salads from restuarants underwhelm me.

In the summer, I switch to making green smoothies.... Yes.  I am a health nut. LOL.

Caldo de Res, with just prepared, warm flour tortillas. I can make it myself, but don't anymore, since many of my local Mexican restaurants have wonderful soups. Besides, I don't want to make a giant pot for one.

I'm also a fan of Menudo, on a cold winter's day, but many aren't. That, I would never try to make. I leave that one to the experts.

Re: Food talk: What is your favorite........

My family prefers hearty homemade soups like chicken noodle and vegetable, as well as meaty chili with lots of beans, and chicken and dumplings.   They like potato soup and I am partial to split pea soup.

We usually only eat soup in fall and winter, but my husband and I were home alone this weekend and decided we wanted chicken and dumplings.
