Re: Food Talk: What is your favorite...........

[ Edited ]

DH and I both like sandwiches, and make them quite often. I find that a loaf of bread lasts a couple of weeks - less time in the summer. Less than fresh bread makes the best grilled sandwiches IMO. Hubby will eat most anything, but if he makes his own, he'll choose bologna with cheese and mayo, or pimento loaf with the same.

I love grilled cheese with several kinds of cheese at one time (American, Havarti, Provel, Muenster, Pepper Jack); or grilled with cheese and a slice of deli meat, or a fried egg. BLTs in the summer are a staple, as well as just sliced tomatoes and lettuce w/mayo. I add a few slices of onion to most sandwiches and also different flavored mustards. I make do with just one loaf of bread at a time, and sometimes a package of Brioche buns/rolls.

When dining out it's always a cheeseburger or French Dip sandwich....or sometimes a Reuben.

(Note: aka Jannabelle...I can't seem to get my old last nickname back - I change it, but the change isn't made).

Grilled cheese bacon & tomatoes with smoked provolone & American sliced cheese.  I'm making one right now, yum!

@Andreatoo, I've bought the Lewis 1/2 loaves that @MOMMAVik mentioned, and they are good - and a perfect amount. Also, you can ask your local grocer's bakery department to offer half loaves of their own bread. Two of my favorite grocers do that with their Italian loaves, and they sell quite a lot of them - especially to seniors.

My favorite sandwich was from a deli near school.

On a warmed hoagie there was shaved beef, grilled green peppers and onions, melted provolone cheese, mayo, and a cup of au jus!

If we're going out and I know I'll miss lunch, I make a hummus sandwich on frozen Ezekiel (orange wrapper) to hold me over.  I make my own hummus a couple times a week.  Great for snacking, too.

Also, I like a fresh ciabatta roll (vegan please!) with tomato and onion, salt, cracked pepper and a drizzle of olive oil.  Yum!

@jannabelle1 @MOMMAVik

Lewis must be a regional bakery. I've never seen it in South Florida but it's a great idea!

@Lucky Charm  I eat 1/2 of a toasted dry Ezekiel 4:7 English muffin (the orange wrapper) most days for breakfast.

Care to share your recipe for hummus? I haven't made it for years because, well, basically my attempts were failures.☹️

We like sandwiches for lunch, especially if we have some nice, ripe home-grown maters! And Dukes mayonnaise.
