Re: Food Talk: What is your favorite....

This is a tough one.

My Italian mother, who waited tables to support us, always prided herself on raising what she would call "good eaters."

I remember when I was older we'd be out and about and she would see a baby in a stroller.  She would inevitably ask the parent, Is he/she a good eater?

I learned very quickly that this was her way of saying:

Criminy -- do you ever feed this kid?

I discovered when I was older that I had been blessed with a mother who was, by today's standards, a "foodie."  Not only did she work in a restaurant, but she knew all the good ones and she would take us out to eat in them on her days off.

Even better was this: She was a tremendous cook.  Her mother died during the Depression and a neighbor, who was Tuscan, taught her how to cook.  She was a big fan of cream and butter.  So she was probably horrified when we moved from Chicago to Arizona and my uncle brought us a variety of his sauces up from Phoenix and I was the only one who would eat them.

Her brother cooked like a Southerner.  Southern Italian, that is.  Every sauce he gave us was loaded with seafood.  My uncle in Northern California, where we moved a year later, was also a great cook.  I learned to appreciate all aspects of Italian cuisine.

Being raised in the West, Mexican food became a staple.  But I've lived in New Mexico now for 26 years and I like New Mexican cuisine.  A whole nuther animal.

My mother taught us to like food and to be adventurous.  Nothing makes me happier than antipasto and a generous helping of linguine with an Italian red.  That's my happy food.

But then there's curry.  Just the smell of it makes me happy.

So it's difficult to come up with a favorite.  Luckily, Better-half is also adventurous when it comes to food and he cooks.

There are cuisines I prefer to others, but there are aspects I like about almost all of them.

~My philosophy: Dogs are God's most perfect creatures. Angels, here on Earth, who teach us to be better human beings.~

Always prefer Italian.
Living in South Florida I have become fond of Hispanic food.
And, after a trip to England years ago we are always on a search for good Indian food.

@Andreatoo  Have you tried EL CAMINO Mexican on Las Olas. Excellent.Great brisket nachos!!!!!

@Zaimee

We will have to check out El Camino. Good Indian is impossible to find in South Florida! And when it does happen it doesn't stay open for very long for some reason ☹️

Did you check out Etaru yet in Hallandale? It's really terrific Japanese

You are right about Indian places coming and going (before Covid). There is a new place on Pembroke Road that I have been passing . I think it is take out... Zaika Express. Will check it out while we are in this neck of the woods and let you know.

@Zaimee

When you go I highly recommend doing the chefs choice. It's a little pricey at 75 per person but they bring you so much food and it's fabulous! It's well worth it

Re: Food Talk: What is your favorite....

@Andreatoo  That would be a special occasion meal! Will have to wait now since Delta rising numbers DH just said no more indoor restaurants. A little hot for outside.

BTW if you go to El Camino it has some outside seats but restaurant has no front door so it is sort of open. The brisket nachos are hugh. We ordered it first and didn't get anything else. And brought some home.( not great reheated)  Definetly filing appetizer for 4 people. Fajitas good, too. Very crowded happy hour bar area.

@Zaimee

Etaru is right on the beach with a beautiful outdoor seating area.

It's right at the end of Hallandale Beach Boulevard. Like you're driving in to the ocean  lol
