The companion of my niece's holiday house in Keratea has been partially vanished from strong fires who today are burning houses and forest near Athens.
This is a photo where dense smoke can be seen from Athens.

I am sorry to hear this disaster is occurring and hope it is put out soon. It is always horrible to read about fires and all disasters and the loss of homes, forests and most of all lives. I in fact just posted a response about the horrific California fires.
It seems nature isn't taking a break these days and we surely need it.

@Dinaki There seems to be fires all over the planet. Has Greece been experiencing a drought?

this is what the article said....
"Wildfires are common during Greece's hot, arid summers. In 2018, a major blaze that swept through the seaside Mati resort, near Nea Makri, caused 102 deaths."

(this one seems to have been intentionally started)
Europe's largest migrant camp, Moria, has been devastated by massive fires that broke out early Wednesday at the overcrowded site on Greece's Lesbos island.

@Kachina624 dear, not this year there was a draught in Athens, it was and still is very hot from what I hear.
What upsets me now, that my niece's friend whom I know also very well, she had remodeled her little house just few weeks ago. Remember that in Greece it is not mandatory to have a house insurance, so all that poor girl had in her new remodeled house is almost gone. Her holiday house was not big, just two bedroom house with a very lovely view to beach, 50 meters from the sea.
Also, as a house warming (I dont know how you call it in America). all of her friends pitched some money and we gave her a a very nice television set for that house's sitting room.
Last Saturday night, she had invited all of her friend to come to see her new remodeled house next to the beach and today, few days later, half of that house is in ashes...

@Dinaki That's very sad. There are a lot of people in California and Oregon who would commiserate with her.

So sad. I will keep them in my prayers.

That is truly terrible. When I was last in Greece, there was still the strong smell of fire and burning around from a large fire that was out of control before we arrived.
It is such a beautiful country. I am so sad that like many other areas, they have problem fires.
I hope your neice's friend gets to rebuild her little home with help from others. Thankfulky, she is safe.
