I fell for a line from a dentist.
He told me he wouldn't fix certain issues unless I had periodontal work done.
I had done what I needed to have done, was faithful about going every 3 months to keep the periodontitis at bay. Every time I had the 6 month x-rays done I always had 3 or 4 or 5 gumline "divets" that needed to be filled because they could turn to decay. After the 3rd time of being told this I finally figured out it was scam. Never in 60+ years had I ever been told I had gumline divets and now all of a sudden they were popping up every 6 months. I never went back.

What have you decided to do?

@madzonie I am sorry UR experiencing this after a fight with cancer. Happy you are doing well. I also had great teeth until a few major critical illnesses. Meds have destroyed my "one upon a time pearly whites". Actually I talk with my hand over my mouth as I am so ashamed. I have had the same experience as you did. My childhood babysitter suggested exactly what @stellabystarlight has suggested. She lived in FL and her husband had beautiful work done by a teaching school. I am in the process of contacing a few great Dental Colleges within my state to see what they offer. If they do work like they did on my friend, it is absolutely beautiful. Good Luck and Keep Smiling!

Second opinion? Get a new dentist!
I broke 2 teeth this weekend, and went yesterday for an "emergency" appointment. I expected her to do something to fix my teeth.
Uh uh ... nope. Instead, they went back at previous xrays, took a few more, and prepared a "treatment plan", I was told my appointmrnt was a "consultation".
I still have broken teeth and am dumbstruck that she'd let me walk out without fixing anything!

Unfortunately, any kind of restorative work is very expensive and no, teeth do not last a life time for some people.

@madzonie Definitely get a second and maybe third opinion. It sounds like the new dentist may be overcharging to pay for his loan to purchase the practice.

Welcome to the new dentistry, where you can't trust any of them...ok, that may be an over exageration, but I've been through at least 7 dentists in the past several years, it's been a nightmare, it would be too long to post here. Now I find myself not trusting any of them and going for 2nd and 3rd opinions, only to find they all have a different opinion on the same X-ray, not sure where that leaves the patient. Thought I found a good dentist, he was older, then he retired, sold the business to a young guy and now every time I go in there or my kids, he finds something wrong...over heard him several times tell other patients what they needed done...seems they are over prescribing work these days; if you have a great dentist, hold on to him..they are a rare breed.
