Facebook marketplace question

I have several items on facebook marketplace for sale....in the past if someone sent me a message about something for sale I clicked on the button that shows chats...and could read the message...very simple.

Last night I got two messages but when I went to facebook and tried to read the message, nothing was there.

Question is....is MESSENGER the same as the CHAT feature?

I do not use the app...does that make a differece?  I just log into facebook on my laptop NOT via any app.

thanks

Re: Facebook marketplace question

Go over to the left where there is a menu of choices and scroll down until you see Messenger.  Click on it.  You will see your inbox.  If no new messages are there, then go to the top, click the three dots, and see if you have any message requests.  Under message requests, there are two things you can click--You May Know and Spam.  I have found some legitimate message requests under Spam, so check there, too.  HTH!

Re: Facebook marketplace question

@Ainhisg   Thanks...I took a look per your suggestions and could not find anything to check for spam but when I try to reply to the initial message, I am able to type a response but then get the message it could not send.

It is not an internet issue.   The latest name in my chats was familar to me.....CHAT and MESSENGER are the same thing correct?

Re: Facebook marketplace question

I used to sell on marketplace in the past.

I am wondering if the messages got deleted.

All my contacts would be through FB messenger.

No, Chat and Messenger are not the same.

Google: Is Chat and Messenger the same and the answer will be explained for you.  Hope this helps.

@Sunshine Kate    @threecees

The message that I received to my email was .....persons name sent a message to the group chat....I am pretty certain that is how all other notifications came to me...then I would go to facebook marketplace and see the notification.

You may be correct that the message was deleted.

Thanks for the help

Re: Facebook marketplace question

I don't know about your situation specifically but earlier this week I noticed a major difference on my FB page.  I have a lot of people who I've not deleted but have unfollowed in the past for various reasons and all of a sudden I started to see when they go on messenger when I haven't seen them for years.  I've made no changes to my settings but FB changed something regarding messages. I've tried everything to fix it but can't.  It's not uncommon for FB to make changes at their whim and good luck to us to try to figure things out.  Hope you can get things to work again at your end.

I prefer messenger vs chat.  It's easier for me.

Re: Facebook marketplace question

@Mom2Dogs I am just a lay person and certainly not an expert on anything social media-related, but it is my understanding that "chat" is used on a desktop/laptop and accessed from your FB page.  (I have a Macbook Pro and also have the messenger app in my tray, but I don't know if that is an Apple feature alone or if Microsoft laptops have that, too.)  Anyway, you will see the word "chat" in the screenshot below that I took from my laptop. Messenger is a separate app that is used on a tablet or mobile device (or possibly some laptops).

Here are the screen shots where you click to see what I referenced.  I hope you can get it figure out and be able to respond.

Re: Facebook marketplace question

Since Meta took over FB its a total train wreck.  I get weird things on FB and then may never see it again.
