Apple, thank you! I reading the forum right now because I have to turn away the news for 30 minutes at least....it's giving me stomach pains. (I am in Sarasota and by myself as my brother wants to stay at his own house and mine is safer than his).
Luckily I am in the City proper, about 6 miles from beach, and my address is not a flood zone ( does not mean it won't, just means if I'm under water the whole County is).
I ve done all the exterior prep I can do (no shutters, 50% don't really) I live in a masonry home so that is a good thing.
All I have left to do is put my docs in plastic, shove some clothes in trash bags, and bag sentimental stuff. Wait until electric goes out and put my insulin in gel packs at that time. I am Sooooooo tired. This prep yesterday and stress internally can really ramp up my blood sugar. I am being careful and safe. Lots of good tips being passed around.
OK going to go eat some breakfast, thanks for the distraction Forum Members, your cattiness is cracking me up lol and your warmth is soothing 😎

Please keep us posted on how you and your brother are doing. I will be thinking about you and awaiting your updates when you can. You live in a beautiful area.

Wonderfulworld,
It's so funny cuz I had to log back in and correct my miles from beach to 6 as I've never looked that up, I was guessing lol ( I am a native, never really have stated how far from beach I am, impressed ! ) lol
Yup I agree, I am so lucky and Sarasota has been SOOOO lucky in my lifetime. I wish it was passing during daylight...hate that it's going to be dark out. Our minds can really be worse than reality sometimes. Grrrrr
If I am able to check in after and have the time (might be in recovery mode) I will. No news just might be good news too!

I am not lucky,I am blessed.I live in the Miami area, hurricane central for over 40 years.
Every June I get batteries, old ones I used in flashlights etc. Water not a issue,I had 5 cases, enough food to feed a army, including dog food and cash money. Did not need to get gas, Ford truck was full. LED laterns, portable radios, etc.
Shutters were put up Thursday before hurricane.
Only look at updates on the news. I do not sit and watch 24/7
.Suitcase pack with change of clothes, important papers.etc.
Was not in the mandatory evacuation area.
The winds were howling, scary but I felt safe.
My family and my dogs were all safe inside.Did have electricity until Sunday evening. The heat can be uncomfortable but bearable. Power came back on Monday afternoon. Yard has to be clean up tree.limbs, etc
But no matter how much you prepare, things happen.............. We still are in the peak of hurricane season. Even when the season passes, next year it starts all over. And yes,I still feel blessed.☺

@apple1964 I stayed, because I was not in the evacuation zone. No damage to my home, tree limbs broken off on my umbrella and mango tree. The small tree on the county's right away fell in front of my house, but not in the street. A few shingles from my roof came off,but no roof damaged.,No flooding on my street.I am blessed.
Glad for the days off,but cabin fever can drive you nuts but I rather have the days off without the drama .(smile).
Anything time I start to complain, I think about going thru Andrew and Irma.Reality check, others have been thru so much more.I am blessed

Boy, my area, Sarasota, got lucky again! Thank you for the concern and care ya'all. My power went out 7pm on the dot Saturday and was on yesterday when I came home from work. Mega tree limbs all over back yard from 60ft. Costa Rican Ear Tree and I had emergency tree trimming Friday before that wiped out my savings but it spared my neighbor trouble during storm...luckily any limbs that fell didn't damage my roof.
I missed having TV news and I couldn't wait to get to work Tuesday for A/C and companionship.
I will never complain...I'm see pictures and footage from the Caribbean and Miami Naples Arcadia Jax , etc. Wow
Thanks all
