Did you ever have this as a child?  Maybe still drink it?  I just read about it last night.

Quick Creamy Egg Milk Drink (No Bake)
This version creates a rich, comforting drink similar to warm milk with eggnog flavors.

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 egg yolk (or 1 whole egg for a lighter drink)
  • 1 tablespoon honey or sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Dash of cinnamon for garnish
Instructions:
  1. Combine & Warm: In a saucepan, mix milk, honey/sugar, vanilla, and salt. Heat gently over medium heat until warm and sugar dissolves, stirring constantly.
  2. Temper: In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolk (or whole egg).
  3. Mix Gently: Slowly pour a small amount of the warm milk into the egg mixture while whisking constantly (this prevents scrambling).
  4. Combine Fully: Pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan with the rest of the milk. Continue heating and stirring gently until hot and slightly thickened, but do not let it boil.
  5. Serve: Pour into a mug, dust with cinnamon, and enjoy.

That's a lot of trouble for a glass of warm milk.

That's a common recipe found in cookbooks from the 1920s and1930s. It's called Egg Milk Punch. It usually includes a shot of rum in the ingredients list in cookbooks published pre- or post-Prohibition.

It was usually served cold in the days prior to the concern of contracting salmonella from uncooked eggs.

Add a jigger of whiskey to the above Egg Milk Recipe and it's called a "Flip."

Here, from the classic cookbook Charleston Receipts, is an explanation: "This refreshing drink was in vogue in England in the 18th century and was brought to Carolina when settled by the Lords Proprietors. The South Carolina Society of Colonial Dames owns a Flip bowl or glass. It is of glass, small at the bottom and gradually widens to the top. It holds about a quart."

One shakes the ingredients with crushed ice.

Safe to say this is how eggnog came into being.

It sounds kind of awful and yes a lot of work!

Sounds like eggnog to me. I used to fix that for my kids when they were little and added hot choc mix to it too. Huge fave amongst the little rascals in my house. I mix up hot cocoa each morning for me--not a coffee drinker--and during the holidays I add a boozy eggnog to it---or even Irish cream--ya--hooo!!!🤩

yes that sounds like eggnog. You can buy this in the grocery stores here during the Holiday. They sell regular and Golden EggNogs.

I used to love it with rum but can no longer do dairy.
