@Puppy Galore  Impressive background too, it's obviously served you well. Your instincts are good and they kicked in when you needed them to. Your comment, "this old tea bag isn't ready to quit yet" LMAO  If I make it to that age, I can only hope I have half your moxie!

@KittySoftPaws

Less than three years ago I was training for a two or three month walk from Southern France through Spain.

Glad you made it back okay!

I have actually been locked out of my home TWICE by my dogs standing up to look at me out the back door and hitting the lock closed. No phone, no coat, nothing. All windows and doors were closed and securely locked.

I have a lot of neighbors, but I felt too foolish to ask them to call my husband at his job.

I had to wait outside for dear hubby to return from work for multiple hours. One time was a bit chilly! It was a good thing he was not away for a longer time.

I have learned my lesson--I definitely have a house key hidden on my property!

@FancyPhillyshopper

Thank you.

You're fortunate to have your hubby I could wait until the cows come home, nobody was coming to our rescue.

@Puppy Galore.  A small mistake like that can end tragically for us seniors.  For you and anyone else that gets into a pickle, don't hesitate to call your local fire department in case of such an emergency, in your case perhaps from a neighbor's phone.

Part of fire department's title is "rescue".  That's what they're paid for and trained to do.  I had to do that when a friend fell off her mobility scooter and neither of us could get her up.  I called 911 and explained we needed help but nobody was injured so no sirens.  They arrived in minutes and were so kind.  They had her up and on a chair with no effort at all.

Never hesitate to call your local fire and RESCUE.

@Kachina624

My neighbors weren't home and my cell phone was locked inside the house with my keys.

Thank you for your post, it's a reminder that if I need help I can call the fire department which is less than a quarter mile from my house.

@Puppy Galore  Was that walk you mention by any chance the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage? My sister, who is 4 years older, I am 59, just did this one with her hubby. They were there 3 months. They traveled through several countries to get to Spain, then a lot of walking and reflection while staying in hostels along the way. They loved it, but it was pretty hard on them physically.

Yes, life does indeed happen when we are making other plans, and often it's quite a shock too. I wish you the best, and like you said, don't give up tea bag! LOL

@Puppy Galore,

What an awful experience! I would have cried too and you should be so proud that you did what you had to do to find a way home for you and your sweet dog.

I just wanted to add one more thing that might help.

A few months? ago, there was a thread here about life alert type things. A lot of suggestions but a few mentioned an Apple Watch, something I never would have thought I'd want.

I had looked up a lot of the senior life alert type things but just found a lot of negative reviews, like not always reliable.

I don't intend to fall but I did once when the tall ladder I was on all of a sudden fell over with me in it. It wasn't good. I don't know how I crawled to my phone but I did.

So this apple watch I got from Walmart-a little over $100, and I got a stretch band in pearls to make it easier than the silicone band it came with. I don't use any of the notifications other than if I fall it will call emergency services if I don't answer. Will also call my emergency contacts.

I love it! No contracts and it shows the time, the date and you can chose a pretty picture that also shows the weather situation.

I hope you have a very snuggly warm evening with your super pup and also that you find a new home that you love and alsoHeart that you never have to lug one of those dumb trash cans again!

p.s.-I did have one of my son- in laws set it up for me because reading instructions for new technology also makes me cry!

@on the bay

Thank you!

I forgot about Apple Watches. There's a Wallmart three miles down the road. I too don't like silicone bands, I'll search for the stretch ones you have. I have to pay someone help me set it up. My broker has an in-house tech guy, I've used him for helping me set up my iPhone and MacBook. I can text him for help.

We're both sitting in our recliner,  keeping warm.

Thank you.

I certainly didn't feel brave and don't now. Terrified , yes.

I love him so very much and I know he loves me. He trust me and I just about failed in his trust.

I guess this is my new normal.😔

My dear friend passed away a year ago. She was widowed and had a sweet little dog. It was just the two of them so she found a friend who agreed to adopt the pup if anything happened to her. Unfortunately she did pass away rather suddenly and little Zydeco was immediately taken in by the friend. It might give you peace of mind to find a friend or relative who would agree to something similar. And congratulations on your perserverence and ingenuity.

@shoesnbags

Thank you.

I don't have anybody. Really, not a soul.

Yes it is. I know two women who hired an a company to come to their rescue and booked hotels each night. Haha, at least they can say they did it their way.

You're young, there's time for you to do it if you're so inclined.

I had purchased bug spray and two hundred bandages for my feet. Still have them.

Your dear sister and and hubby have wonderful memories

Oh my you poor thing - how horrible.  You are very resourceful and strong to do what you did.  Thank God you and your dog are ok.

Do you have an automatic/electric garage door opener for your garage?  If so you can get a wireless keypad for outside the door.

Some years ago I locked myself out and had no way to get back in.  My husband was home but asleep.  He finally heard me ringing the doorbell.  I had the keypad installed - it's very handy.

@FranandZoe

I do have three remote garage doors door openers, one in the car and usually one in my pocket when I attempt to go fior a walk with my pup. Of course I forgot it and it was in the house with my cell and keys.

What you did was remarkable.

Your doggie may not know it, but you are his hero.

I'm glad you are both safe and warm.Heart
