Yes, I remember them. It was a great source of stress for me, though. To be popular at my Catholic grammar school, you had to get a lot of them for your birthday. I always dreaded whether I would get them from my girlfriends. I had a mother that had mapped out my future.LOL. Popularity was more important to her than good grades. 😳🙄

BTW, maybe it was a New York thing as I grew up in a suburb

Ack!  Exactly the same situation at my Catholic grammar school in the Bronx!  💞

Omg yes I remember the women including my mom wearing them at special events.  I also remember wearing them at my cotillion along with the others young ladies, if I remember correctly we wore them on our wrist. They were real flowers too.

Re: Does anyone remember birthday corsages?

I can remember wearing them, but my mom and sister made it, not friends.

I remember one I wore was made out of the safety lollipops because they had the short, rounded sticks. I believe colorful pipe cleaners were used to attach the candies. Another was a Bazooka bubble gum corsage.

I think you gave out the candy from your corsage to your closest friends or classmates.

I was in New York City so it definitely was happening here.

@Jo1313  Thanks for refreshing my memories! It was probably 1971 when I was in love with Michael Jackson! 💞

@Jo1313

This is the first time I've ever read those two words together.  So no, I don't remember them.

Re: Does anyone remember birthday corsages?

I absolutely remember those corsages from grade school to junior high.   Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, we ordered those corsages from the florist and based on your Birthday age they put things like bubblegum pieces or gumdrops or dog biscuits etc in the number of pieces of your age on the corsage. I don't remember them all but the florist had a chart hanging on the wall that told you what would be on your corsage based on your age. I remember trying to decide what color ribbon I would choose as to what dress I would wear that day. Also, each birthday girl would make a ribbon bow and add one of the items, i.e. dog biscuit, and her best friends would also wear a mini corsage for the day.  This was very important stuff to us at the time -remember it was in the '50s lol.

@Jo1313 - I remember and wore them.  Born and raised in Brooklyn, so I guess it was a NY thing.  Some of them were Tootsie Rolls, gum drops, dog biscuits. A fun memory!

Sounds like fun but I never got that.  I grew up in NYC (Brooklyn but we moved to South Jersey when I was 11) too but my mother who was a child of The Depression would never spend money on something so frivolous!

They weren't a thing in Texas.  This is the first time I've heard of them.

Re: Does anyone remember birthday corsages?

I don't remember kids ever getting birthday corsages. However my grandmother always insisted on her children giving her one on her birthday.
