They were a big thing when I was a kid( in the 50's&60's)..Maybe it was just a NYC thing..Florists used to sell them.
Ex: age 7 corsage had something like 7 pieces of bubble gum.. age 10 was like 10 lollipops..I'm not sure if those candies were for the right age but you get the idea..I do remember age 16 it was candy kisses..My Sister found her 16th in a trunk in the basement..Good thing it was in a plastic bag..all that melted chocolate that looked like white dust! Her daughter said to her.."I can't believe you wore those tacky things"..LOL

Nope. Grew up in Arizona. I don't think it was a thing here.

Yes, I remember them. It was a great source of stress for me, though. To be popular at my Catholic grammar school, you had to get a lot of them for your birthday. I always dreaded whether I would get them from my girlfriends. I had a mother that had mapped out my future.LOL. Popularity was more important to her than good grades. 😳🙄
BTW, maybe it was a New York thing as I grew up in a suburb

I grew up in NJ and I remember a friend saying that her older teenage sister received a cigarette coursage on a birthday. I thought she was kidding at the time, but I guess she wasn't!

No recollection of them at all . . . . But we lived on army bases, so we had a different lifestyle...basically we had no continuity!

In the early 80s I worked in a factory. We had a money corsage. They folded dollar bills into flowers and as the day went on the bills were attached to the corsage. They got quite big, lots of $$.
(dollars folded like accordian - like making napkin flower- attached with wire)
