Yes, there's junk on TVS, but if you look at all the wonderful shows on many stations - NOVA, history channels, all the British shows, I often find entertaining and educational shows to watch. I recently watched "Royal Paintbox," an hour show detailing all the artistic talent chronicled in many generations of the British royal family. It was amazing.

Before I married, I was without a tv for about 10-12 years...did not miss it at all. I know exactly what you mean about people's reactions! When they would ask me why, I would sometimes end up in a rant about "garbage...propaganda...waste of time...boredom...commercials commercials commercials!!" I thought I sounded crazy, until I got married and started watching again...then I felt vindicated LOL. I could easily and happily live without it again, altho I would not rule out something like Netflix or Roku.

I could live happily and peacefully without a TV. DH cannot. I hate the noise. And most content.

I have a tv in every room in my house. Except the bathroom. I do have to admit, I watch more on the internet then on tv.

I am a BBC fan and have watched PBS Masterpiece Theater from the beginning. I definitely would not want to miss all my British mysteries either. They are not all bloodless--some episodes of Luther are graphic. Also love the National Geo channel and my college/pro football. I enjoy some other channels as well. There is a lot of what I feel is nonsense, but the good outweighs the bad for me.

I learn a lot from TV programs on public television station, history channels, smithsonian channel and others like that. As examples, in my DVR I have recorded programs on ancient Greece, Pompeii, WWII, Buckingham Palace etc. Often I'll follow up watching some of these types of programs with some additional research on my own.
I also enjoy college and NFL football and other major sports events like some of the Olympic sports, Tour De France, etc.
Most of the time when I watch TV I am also doing something else at the same time like knitting, felting, or some other craft project so I don't look at it as wasted time.

I have a TV in my living room, although I don't watch it that much. I could most definitely live without one. DH, on the other hand, cannot live without a TV. He has one in his bedroom and it stays on about 18 hours a day. I'm waiting for it to blow up one of these days. He even sleeps with the remote in his hand. I told him when he dies, I'm going to bury the remote with him.

I love my tvs. I have one in the living room and one in my bedroom, and can't imagine not having one.

I am fascinated by "real time", so computers and Smart Phones are what I can't live without. I do enjoy having a television but can walk out in the middle of a show because I really don't care..... I will watch the news and a Shopping Channel (usually QVC, and there's that "real time" thingy again)....
If I do feel like watching something it's usually because I am feeling sick and can't bother "thinking" about being on a computer, and even then I prefer sit-coms..... something that will make me laugh....
