Re: Do you remember paper dolls?

@EastCoastGal

I used to be a medical transcriptionist before my son was born. When I stopped working to raise my children, many years later I became a ghost writer.

I am neither one of those now.

I have an art degree and a fashion design and merchandising degree. I have been drawing since I could hold a crayon! Painting since I could hold a brush.

I used to build things with my dear dad. He owned a big construction company but at heart he was a woodworker. One year when I was in school (back then it was called MGM, now GATE) I came up with a horse marionette that my dad and I made. It was so cute. I showed it to my teacher and she asked if I could teach the class how to make it.

My dad supplied everything. He made all the wood cut-outs and we put together “kits” for each of my classmates. It was a fun day.

Years later I saw “MY” horses in a gift shop!

Thank you for the compliment. I too am typing on an iPad. It does take some getting used to doesn’t it? I love it now.

Re: Do you remember paper dolls?

@insomniac2 ... Wow! Another fan of paper dolls! You know, I just don't remember what kind I had. You and several posters have mentioned the Lennon Sisters paper dolls. I used to watch those sisters on TV and loved them. I believe the youngest, Janet, was my age at the time so that's probably why I didn't have their's ...because I was too old for paper dolls. What?!?! I'm 69...but a very young-thinking 69!!

I hate to stop posting when I'm having such a good time but this darn ole iPad is killing me. I have fibromyalgia and I'm sore all over from typing ....with ONE finger yet!! I'll be back again on this thread talking more about our paper dolls. This thread brought back so many fun memories! Smiley Happy

Good night, Ladies. Talk with you again. (Gosh! You would think this was my thread!! I'll have to thank the OP for posting this!)

I have critters to attend to and house things to accomplish tomorrow. Ick.

Re: Do you remember paper dolls?

Hi, everyone, I am the OP on this thread about paper dolls.  I have read all of your comments and have really enjoyed them.

It was in the 40s when I played with paper dolls.  I don't recall any that were of famous people, so perhaps they were not around in the 40s.  I think mine came in a booklet, they were paper and had the tabs to help the clothes stay on.

What fun memories and I'm glad you enjoyed reminiscing along with me.

@Big Sister ... Good Morning! Thank you so very much for making me remember what it was like being a child again. I haven't read all the posts but you made all of the ladies feel just like I did. I could feel people smiling ...then remembering what it was like to be that little girl playing with her paper dolls. It's so nice to be able to be on a thread where everyone felt the same way ...not worrying if their opinion was going to be criticized. This subject was perfect. There are a lot of us out there who are going through hard times, but YOU made us remember a happier time in our lives. I don't think you know how much better you made a lot us feel...even if it was just for an hour. Many blessings to you, Big Sister.

Ladies! We are NEVER to old to play, create!

Lets all go get some paper dolls. They are available still, many places. Online, even Barnes and Noble in the store. Even modern ones, can you say current politicians?

The act of cutting and organizing is most of the fun for me.

The ones DH bought me years ago I used with DD. She loved them. She is now 19 ( oh, and getting married on Wednesday! Don’t even get me started).

A great reminder of simpler times. Relaxing fun. No age limit.

@BirdieGal   Yes. It is just like coloring in a coloring book... rather restful, mindless time spent with no stress or  reason... just doing it because.
