No, it would never occur to me to watch a shopping channel for comfort or solace.

There are times when it's 12:00-1:00a and I cannot sleep, I'll turn on QVC that will put me back to sleep.

Actually yes. My mother passsed 8 years ago and she was an avid QVC fan. I don't watch often but when I do it always reminds me of her!

I used to very much, but now not so much though I do look sometimes but now just out of curiosity or if interested in something.
The way even the older comfort hosts use to sell before the manic instructions seems to be gone for the most part.
I used to always watch AM Style, Denim and Co with Carolyn stuff like that and years ago had it on a lot!
I still watch Valerie but only with some hosts and I find her prices really over the top for most things that are later reduced over 50-75% which in my mind is what they should have been in the first place!
Plus they continue to sell things that have dismal reviews so that is a turn off.
I find the forums comforting even though there are some that are annoying or contentious. Maybe it can be comforting because it is something familiar.
Plus there are many here that I like so much, you included @house_cat
If it weren't for these, I wouldn't read or post anymore.
Now I am more likely to watch my wild rabbits and birds that come in the morning or night for seeds, talk to or see my kids, or binge a British mystery series. And often I will go down the rabbit hole of watching "The Best of" AGT, BGT, etc.
I'm glad that you found comfort in watching and I agree about watching Valerie and Rick![]()
I actually really do miss the comfort that watching QVC used to most always give me. It was live, comforting and familiar people to watch.

Regular church attendance provides much more solace than a tv channel can.

Absolutely, I do at times... there's comfort in familiarity.
Whether you call it solace, distraction, or just a little something that cheers you up.
Getting lost in a fun show with Valerie and Rick while cozying up on the couch with a warm cup of tea can do it for me as well. ![]()

I find it uplifting to discuss ways to lessen the discomfort through conversation with family and friends. Other points of view give me something to think about.

It makes perfect sense. Watching a familiar QVC host can evoke a sense of comfort, and familiarity. Especially if you are a longtime viewer.
This is positive and in no way a negative. Enjoy the comfort.

@house_cat @Yes. Sometimes, you (everyone) just needs a good distraction. That's actually a healthy sign. It can keep you from ruminating or help you snap out of a bad mood. Works much better than watching the news.

@house_cat Yes, I do as well.
I think @GingerHead put it perfectly: "there's comfort in familiarity". Whether it distracts, cheers up or minimalizes sadness, it's all good.
