I can't believe I'd ever say this but I really do. I feel so much better if I work out in the morning. If I don't I feel horrid all day.

@ECBG wrote:@jpie Thank you for the kind post. I have used machines, bought machines, paid for memberships, and speed walked with a friend I didn't even get to see (because I taught, then came home to cook and help rear two boys),
detested it all.
I get my workouts running back and forth in the store where I am the (head) stylist.

I don't know how teachers with a family were able to teach all day, and then go home to a family and work for another few hours with no down time. I was always exhausted and stressed out most days. There is no free time when you teach. As you know, from the first bell to the last bell, you were on duty. Hall duty, bus duty, restroom duty, and so much more!
I was always very early to school in the morning, 30 minutes before report time and worked during lunch in my classroom. I once had an administrator fault me on not staying after school to work with students (this is when I would go to the gym). I asked her how many days the teachers were staying after school (and getting extra pay) and how many minutes per week. She said one day, and 60 minutes. I told her that I spent 30 minutes per day, five days a week (150 minutes) and cost the district zero dollars! I also told her I provided a place where kids that were awkward with the lunch socialization had a safe haven with me! She said she had never thought of it that way and ended up thanking me! Ha!
For a few years, I did a weight training class for students, twice a week. Our middle school had a great weight and cardio room! Then we got a new principal who basically messed up my Tues.-Thursday schedule and I stopped doing the sessions because it was interfering with my own workout sessions!

Yes, I feel "good" afterwards, but it's a real struggle to get through it some days.
Every day? I have been a runner/hockey player/Ref, and a race car driver/mechanic. There was never a time since the '60's where I did not give my body rest days.
Hey, if that is what it takes for you? Whatever is working is the right thing.

I've always loved doing things, playing sports, gardening but I am bored senseless excercising without mentally concentrating on something else. My most sustaining "excercise" was Karate, which started in College and was something I did off and on for many years only stopping in my 50's. I attained a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Tang Soo Do. I don't know if I ever attained a Dopamine high or not, but when I trained or tested or taught, I never felt any pain anywhere, always felt exceptionally good.

What do you wonder "about those people that do", of which I am one?

It's not my favorite thing to do but I do it to keep myself healthy. I joined a gym in 2013 and have gone faithfully 3 or 4 times a week since they closed down in March. Even when they reopen, I don't know if I'll go back simply because gyms are notorious for spreading germs and since the Covid 19 virus, I'm very unsure of how safe they will ever be. Our son has CP and I don't want to put him at risk. Instead, I attempt to walk 8000 steps each day, use my stationary bike and resistance bands for strength training. So far, my weight has remained the same so I'm fine with my home exercise routine and will continue with it.

@PA Mom-mom wrote:@ECBG Not nearly as much as I enjoy eating Herr's Crab Chips! Seriously, I used to be a runner, and I loved the highs from that. But it was 45 years ago. I don't know if I could get there again.
Looking at your last sentence above. You never know until you try, have you? I won't go into my usual long story, just a short one.
Health kept me from reaching my former fitness goals, and for over 14 years. At 77 that 1 after the other issues gave me a reprieve. I jumped on it and over 16 months regained that level(age factored in of course).
When I started that long journey I was always waiting for the next health show to drop. It didn't, and now at 81 it still hasn't. Even got back my top ice skating skills. The whole time thinking: "I know I can"!
Yes, this is a short version. 😎

@ECBG wrote:@PA Mom-mom Loved horse back riding. I moved from the farm at 14. Never, ever cared for sports. I read constantly and created projects using color.
It's too bad you don't live close to me. My sister lives just a few miles from me. She has ridden and owned horses most of her adult life. She still has 2 of them and rides them regularly.
She is 86 now, and still takes care of her horses, along with her husband. They have 10 acres/Barn/Outdoor and Indoor riding rings. To me she is amazing.

I do enjoy physical exercise. When I don't I feel sluggish and...just old. I walk 3-5 miles a day when it isn't over 90 or below 25. I have a gazelle and a stationary bike I use too. I've had jobs that were physically tiring and office jobs just sitting at a desk. I found the office jobs exhausting. I guess I like to move.
