I am right there with you!  Same with me!  My dear Mother was so talented - she could do it all - sew, knit, crochet, make quilts, ceramics, floral arranging, etc., etc., etc.!  Me???  Ha - double ha!  She tried to teach me to do crocheting and I am left-handed so it was even more challenging, so I gave up.  I do not believe I have even one crafty gene in my whole body and it makes me sad!  I will go in Michael's or Hobby Lobby and just walk around and am in awe and I can't do a blessed thing!  So, you are not alone.....

@AngelPuppy1 Welcome!🥰 I have a knack for seasonal home decorating, and have shared it with my children! I just cannot do ANYTHING that requires precision, and skill to make things with your hands; though I have tried many times.😁

THANK you SO much for caring to share!🤗

That's so nice that you can do the seasonal home decorating!  I have to buy everything and it gets pretty expensive.

@AngelPuppy1 Welcome back!🥰 It can get expensive , but I have amassed a nice collection for each holiday by shopping here, Michael's, Hobby Lobby, Ebay and Amazon through the years. I am a bargain shopper, so I only purchase when things are on sale, or clearance!😁

My husband was in the military when we were young. We were stationed in Germany for 4 years and since there was no American tv, I had to find something to entertain myself with on my days off work. I decided to teach myself how to crochet. I ended up making dozens of afghans in a lot of different patterns. Sent them to the states as gifts for birthday, Christmas, new baby, you name it!!!😁😁😁
When we got back stateside, I never picked up another crochet needle!😂😂

@Sapphiregal Welcome!🥰 I was pleasantly surprised and smiled as I read your post!😁 I can understand how crocheting was a nice way to pass the time, and help with the doldrums, but am surprised that you called it quits once you were back home!😊 I am certain the recipients of your temporary hobby of handmade gifts were MOST welcome!❤️

My mother used to crochet all the time and I never could understand how she could watch TV or just sit and talk without even looking at her work! She tried to teach me but I couldn't, for the life of me, get my fingers to work. Now, with my arthritic fingers, I know it would be impossible. I did a lot of counted cross stitch back in the 80s and found it to be therapeutic. I started one for my mother with one of her favorite hymns, then time got away from me and she passed. I found it years ago and tried to at least finish it for myself but my eyes had gotten so bad that I could no longer do it. Now that I've had cataract surgery, I could probably finish it now. Someday, I suppose.

I also did quilting, was in a quilters group in our local technical school, which was lots of fun. I can see why ladies a long time ago did this for the fellowship involved.

I did lots of macrame in the 70s. Had an aunt who did beautiful tatting, which was pretty amazing to watch. Arthritis has pretty much taken away anything that calls for hand work.

@Carolina925 Welcome!🥰I was touched as I read your post about how your arthritis prevented you from finishing such a heartwarming, precious gift for your dear mother and losing her before you could finish it!❤️I think it would be WONDERFUL if you could finish it in homage to her!😊

Re: Did or Do You Knit, CROTCHET, Sew Or Quilt?😊

I learned how to sew on an old treadle sewing machine in the early 60s. I loved that machine. I sewed a lot of clothes back then. Mom sewed a lot of our clothes as kids. She even made me a winter maxi-coat when those were popular back at the end of the 60s-early 70s.

I don't sew anymore.

@CalminHeart Welcome!🥰 WOW! I was not familar with the term treadle, so I Googled and smiled!😊 I never knew the name of that particular vintage style sewing machine, so I THANK you for that!😁 I remember maxi-coats, and think it is MOST impressive that your mother sewed THAT well!❤️ You were QUITE fortunate!😊

I tried a few things as a kid, but the only successful creation I made back then were potholders.

I had a red metal frame and used a hook to work with the loops of strings, basically.  I could do the hems, too.

I'm sure a few here can picture what i'm referring to ...

@Tinkrbl44 Welcome!🥰 It sounds almost like something I had as a young girl called a  knitting jenny! It might have been some type of weaving loom as well!🤔 I am looking forward to seeing more definitive answers that more knowledgeable posters can share, because I am learning SO much unexpected information from this thread, and have THOROUGHLY enjoyed each contribution!💝

THANK you SO much for caring to share today!🤗
