@Lilysmom1 @Desertdi Right now here in the desert, it's 1pm and 63° with drizzle. It's chilly. The last 3 days we've set records for having the lowest high temperature for the date.
This is just so weird and has never happened before that I know of. I hear Canada set a record all-time high temperature yesterday, so how is it possible that I'm cold down South in the desert?

The main difference between a modem and a router is that a modem connects you to the Internet and a router distributes the Internet connection to your devices. A router does not connect you to the Internet by itself.
@Lilysmom1 If that's true, how do I get Internet but have only a router but no modem?

@Desertdi @Kachina624 As you know, my brother lives in the interior of BC. Yesterday it was 118 degrees. Spring rainfall next to nothing. They are very worried about fires and air quality. He has been there for 30+ years. His kids are off on their own. I keep telling him it's time to come back to Nova Scotia. With climate change, our winters are milder, our summer and fall are longer. The housing market in Nova Scotia went crazy this year. Huge influx of buyers from other parts of Canada and beyond.
I am pretty sure he will be looking for at least a seasonal residence when he comes in July as his in laws are elderly with issues and his wife, a nurse, has been here a great deal caring for them.
The weather in parts of the world is just scary to me. And Kachina greening at 63 F. S

@Lilysmom1 Another "strange" thing: @Kachina624 is only 400 miles from me (although at a much higher elevation). But we are both in the Desert Southwest region.......and the difference in weather between our two cities right now is DRASTIC...... Yeah.....SCARY is the word! di

@Kachina624 , this is what google says...I always thought you needed a modem. S
If your computer does not have immediate access to an Internet modem -- meaning that it either does not have a dial-up modem installed inside it or you don't have an Internet modem in your home --y ou can still use your computer to get connected to the Internet. Though this can sound complicated if you don't have a lot of computer knowledge, it is actually a straightforward process that even someone who isn't tech-savvy can set up.
Make sure your computer has a device installed inside it called a "wireless networking adapter." This device is not a modem, but allows you to connect to wireless Internet networks to access the Web. If you have a wireless networking adapter installed in your computer, you will have a "Wireless Network Connection" icon in your task bar. If you don't, you can purchase either an internal unit or an external unit (which plugs into a USB port) from a computer retailer...

@Lilysmom1 I no longer even own a computer. For the past 6+ years all I've used are an iPad then Samsung tablets. It's beyond my knowledge of electronics but my tablet works just fine.
We in NM probably have the worst Internet service in America. There was a real crisis when kids and workers had to start working from home and couldn't get connected.

@Desertdi @Kachina624 , my brother has his trailer hooked up to the truck, ready to evacuate in the event they get the order...and it has started in June. Normally you aren't seeing this until August. S

Thats terrible @Lilysmom1. I know Alaska has had weird weather and terrible fires the last few years. It has disrupted migration patterns of animals, especially caribou. People who depend on them for meat now don't know where to find them. Some places haven't had enough snow so that people can't use their snow machines. Everything is changing and not for the better.
